Dark And Amusing Tale Of War
johnstonjames23 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
very amusing and funny, but very dark. it's said to be based on a true story. if that's the case, then it's a very revealing parable of man's controlling obsessions and inane need for dominion.

the story (supposedly true. but that's not important)centers around three young and childish Serbian soldiers who invade the home of an elderly woman in Croatia. bored and restless, they battle with the old woman over the remote control of a TV set that can only be turned on with the remote. the old woman stubbornly refuses to relinquish the whereabouts of the remote leading to some amusing but dire consequence.

dark and often funny, the film makes a profoundly deep impact. wanting what you want is'nt always a good thing. and getting what you want does'nt always feel good. specifically when the means to obtain or keep are dubious.

the only thing that marred this clever, insightful film, was it's use of location. it was obviously filmed in So.Cal and not Croatia. this fact probably could have been avoided using tighter shots in the opening and not so many long shots that reveal the actual location of the filming. i've been all over my beloved So.Cal and i recognize it when i see it. but that is my only criticism and a suggestion to future independent film makers, to whom i hope the future of film is all yours.

i enjoy independent film making very much and believe it's where the direction of film should be going.
