Producer William Winckler did very little rewriting and editing of violent content for the U.S. version. He remained fairly faithful to the original Japanese material, which was very unusual for the time period on U.S. kids TV.
The series was sold to TV half way through the dubbing of the first 13 episodes, and so there was a mad rush to complete the second half in time to meet the air dates.
