plot has issues
SnoopyStyle25 November 2018
Sarah (Shannen Doherty) is attacked by crazed Theodore Gray (Peter Outerbridge). It's ten years later and Gray is up for parole. Sarah is still haunted by the attack and is married to Michael Reynolds in Boston. As a police sketch artist, she draws a suspect who closely resembles Michael. The victim runs into Michael and he's arrested. Evidence is found at their home. Sarah uncovers a frame up job.

The problem is that it's unlikely for her police detective friend to not believe her or the height difference. The other issue is that the attack doesn't need to happen. A victim could be had to point the finger at Michael directly without an attack. In that way, the height discrepancy wouldn't even be an issue. There are lots issues with the premise that needs ironing out. Doherty is a good victim and Outerbridge is a good creep. The husband needs a better actor. This is functional as another woman-in-danger movie even if it has many issues.

YOUR PAINTINGS SPEAK TO ME
nogodnomasters19 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Sarah (Shannen Doherty) an artist is attacked in the first scene. The attacker (Peter Outerbridge) is put away. 10 years later her husband Michael (John H. Brennan) is accused of murder. As Michael rots in the same prison as her attacker awaiting trial, Sarah works to find the real killer and must help get her attacker out of jail to keep her husband from getting killed in prison.

I was bored with the film as moving the husband to a separate cell in a different facility would have solved the whole problem. The film has a made for TV sound track and credits. There was also a certain lameness to the overall production. Fans of Lifetime films might enjoy this one.

Parental guide: No F-bombs, couple in bed with a minor grope. Near stripper nudity. Attempted rape.

It's OK - possible spoilers

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, basically this movie is about a sketch artist named Sarah from Boston who is almost stabbed to death. ten years later, she is asked to come before a parole board to represent her side of the story. This is when many other women start being attacked like Sarah was, and Sarah's husband is arrested because he looks like the attacker. The attacker actually turns out to be a friend of the man that tried to kill Sarah ten years ago. It's a good movie. In the US, it aired on The WB under the title "Portrait of Murder".

Very badly-made TV movie
capcanuk29 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
When I saw this was a Canadian production, I so wanted to enjoy it. I actually really like Shannon Doherty, and her performance was quite acceptable for a made-for-TV movie.

However, this film is so chock-full of inconsistencies and impossibilities, that it makes one wonder how the writers were actually capable of getting jobs in the first place.

It would be pointless to enumerate the countless errors in the plot and character development. Suffice to say that the writers know nothing about the judicial system, neither in Canada nor the US (come on, awaiting trial yet placed in the general population of a prison with all the hardened criminals?).

The police are incredibly incompetent, as they can only be in badly-made TV shows.

The main character (Doherty) at no point confides in either her husband's lawyer, nor her long-time friend the police officer, and this before any of the "don't talk to anyone, or else..." aspect of the plot gets going.

And only in this sort of movie do women go, unarmed and alone, into dangerous situations to face possible serial killer/rapists.

Suffice to say, even on a boring week-night, with nothing on the boob-tube, avoid this stinker of a rental. I'd even go so far as to say, avoid it if it comes on free-TV.

This was just stupid

Warning: Spoilers
All I can say is that everyone in this movie was made stupid. It's a wonder any of these characters made it safely to adulthood. And I like Shannon Doherty, but really, she could do better than this mess!

The story started out well enough, and had a good degree of suspense. But then it all seemed to fall apart with one dumb move from all the characters to another. Not to mention the after school bully in the yard win from Michael in jail at the end could have been written by a 12 year old. The many dumb things Doherty's character managed to make throughout the movie made me wonder how anyone could take her seriously.

Honestly, this was way too long and boring and the ending wasn't worth the long and dreary wait.

Truly mediocre
rtmackenzie2 March 2022
The premise could have been interesting but oof- this movie had so many issues.

From the knock off Hannibal Lecter-esque bad guy, to Shannon Doughertys wooden acting, and a married couple with perhaps the least amount of chemistry I've seen since watching The Room, this movie is the epitome of mediocrity.

Devious and Diabolical Villain
lavatch8 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In "The Rendering," there was an especially nasty villain, all-seeing and all-powerful with his charismatic personality. But he never fools the dynamic protagonist for a minute.

Sarah Reynolds is a talented artist and strong woman. The victim of a knife attack from Ted Grey, Sarah must confront him again at the time of his parole hearing.

While the narrative elements were far-fetched, there was excellent dramatic tension in the cat-and-mouse game played by Grey, who is the mastermind in a dastardly plot to frame Sarah's husband Michael and then blackmail her.

Shannen Doherty is outstanding in the role of Sarah. Her stoic demeanor throughout her ordeal helps her to endure a test of wills. There was a clever false ending to the film that led to a grand climactic scene in the art studio.

This was a sturdy and watchable thriller that has held up well for decades.

This is another great Made for TV movie that Shannen has done
tanya9021031 July 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this movie, it kept you on your toes wondering what would come next from the beginning of the movie till the end. If u get a chance to see it I would definately recommend seeing it. Sara (Shannen Doherty) is doing a self portrait painting of herself she hears a noise so goes to leave the place where she is painting but the door is locked and when she turns around to go another way he (Gray-Peter Outerbridge) stabs her. 10 years later, just when she thinks she is safe her Gray is released from prison and goes after her again. He tries framing her husband for murder. To find out more.... Watch the movie :-)

Shannen Doherty was Outstanding
whpratt130 August 2005
Always liked Shannen Doherty and in this film she really put her heart and soul into her role and showed what a great talent she really has to offer Hollywood. Shannen plays (Sarah Reynolds),"Another Day" TV, 01, who is married and seems to be drifting a part from her husband who wants children, but Sarah is just not quite ready for the patter of little feet around the home. The film starts right from the beginning with lots of violence and manages to have a story that never seems to end. The plot has many twists and turns, people go to jail who are innocent and the guilty seem to be release in order to start more torture and death. Shannen Doherty looked very sexy and attractive in this film and I only wish Shannen would get her act together in real life, so we can look forward to more of her acting career and great talents.
