An odd and curious short film
Rodrigo_Amaro3 September 2021
A quite unusual film (based on two plays) the film tells the story of religious leader Antônio Conselheiro (Tuca Andrada) several years before his prominence while leading the conflict in Canudos in the late 1800's. This is before his religious conversion and he's a married man tormented by an older woman who warns him that his wife might be unfaithful and he must take action in order to prevent the worst from happening. Tragedy ensues in unexpected ways but that will lead him to his destiny and become a holy man to the common poor people of the place - events such can be viewed in the epic film "Guerra de Canudos" - which also stars Tuca Andrada playing a soldier who fights against Conselheiro's group.

This was an odd short film, very reduced but there's some gripping elements to hold it together such as good performances, a haunting musical score and an impecable cinematography. I was curious in seeing Andrada's earliest roles, I find him a very good actor and I don't get to see him much as a lead and he was a very effective one in this piece. Check it out curious minds. 7/10.
