The plot of this film is loosely based on the Korean film 'The Quiet Family' (1998), which was not a musical.
The scene in which the father sketches over the indentations of a blank note to find a secret message but finds a lewd drawing instead is very similar to a scene in The Big Lebowski (1998) in which the Dude finds a similar note made by Jackie Treehorn.
Several well known brands appear throughout the film such as clothes from the Kappa clothing brand (worn by Masayuki and Terue Katakuri) as well as a vintage Coca-Cola bench.
Kat Von Dee named it her favourite film of all time alongside 'Coneheads' on an episode of 'L.A. Ink'.
