Klaus Kinski agreed to appear in this episode because he was a huge fan of the 1946 Cocteau film "La belle et la bête." The costumes and makeup of this episode were inspired by that film.
This episode is the only one to be shot on a combination of 35mm film (for exterior and location scenes) and video (for studio interiors).
Anjelica Huston, who plays Marguerite, also played Primrose in the episode "The Nightingale".
