Oscars 2023 host Jimmy Kimmel predictably took aim at Will Smith’s infamous slap incident during his opening monologue.
However, the late-night talk show host didn’t stop there.
Follow The Independent’s live Oscars coverage here.
Tom Cruise, Babylon and the Academy itself also found themselves at the butt of Kimmel’s jokes on Sunday (12 March) evening.
Here are all his best quips from the night.
‘If anyone in this theatre commits an act of violence at any point during the show, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor’
“We want you to have fun, feel safe and, most importantly, we want me feel safe,” Kimmel told the audience. Kimmel’s predecessor Chris Rock was the one on the receiving end of Smith’s slap last year after making a joke at his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s expense

Adapting Lizzy Goodman’s novel of the same name, Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern’s Meet Me in the Bathroom captures the essence of late-90s, early-2000s New York, covering the periods right before and after 9/11. For primarily capturing the rise of the Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and LCD Soundsystem, it represents a nostalgia for a time of independence, a moment in which an entire music scene could bloom out of near nothingness. Full of live concert footage and archival interviews, the documentary finds the two U.K.-based filmmakers embracing the shaggy, messy nature of the bands they’re depicting.
Ten years after their LCD Soundsytem concert doc Shut Up and Play the Hits, the directors assemble a mythological picture of New York, a city bursting at the seams with new musicians and a new wave of rock. Julian Casablancas of the Strokes and Karen O of the...

It's the end of an era, and it's never easy to say goodbye.
Netflix's original romantic comedies The Kissing Booth and To All the Boys were popular since they began in 2018, but both high-school rom-coms closed out their adventures this year.
Based on teenage writer Beth Reekle's novels, The Kissing Booth franchise has been a hit. In the first two Netflix films, we watched Noah and Elle's secret love affair and how they dealt with long-distance when tempted with other crushes.
In The Kissing Booth 3, Elle Evans made one of the hardest decisions of her life and chose where to attend college and broke one of the Flynn brothers' hearts.
Picking up around two months after The Kissing Booth 2, a series of romantic montages caught us up on the lives of Noah and Elle and Lee and Rachel before heading into the film's main arc.

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety”…
We’re just a couple days away from Liza Minnelli’s birthday, which is March 12. As I first told you, the Hollywood legend — and Variety cover star — will be feted that night with “Love Letter to Liza: A 75th Birthday Tribute Celebration,” a virtual extravaganza benefiting The Actors Fund. Close to 50 celebs are taking part, including Joel Grey, Lea DeLaria, Kristin Chenoweth, Melissa Manchester, Ben Vereen, Sandra Bernhard, Jonathan Groff, Michael Feinstein, Ute Lemper, Tony Hale, Nathan Lane, Neil Meron, Kathy Griffin and Minnelli’s sister Lorna Luft.
“The best email you’re ever going to get in your lifetime is Lily Tomlin sending you a video of her doing all her characters,” producer Daniel Nardicio says of the pre-recorded tributes. “She did all of them congratulating Liza.” Also on the bill is former “Seinfeld” star Jason Alexander, who appeared with Minnelli...

Tyler Posey is eager for a “Teen Wolf” reunion.
“I’ve been coming up with concepts in my head for the last few years texting them to [series creator] Jeff Davis, ‘Hey Jeff. We need to do this idea,’” says Posey, who played title character Scott McCall on the MTV series, which ran for six seasons before ending in 2017. “So I’m a huge advocate of bringing ‘Teen Wolf’ back.”
While the series shot him to stardom, life is a bit different now for Posey. At 29, he’s no longer a teen idol. Now, he’s an actor with a serious rocker side. He recently dropped his debut single “Shut Up,” featuring vocals by Phem and Travis Barker on guitar.
He’s on OnlyFans and came out in October as sexually fluid. “I did this live on OnlyFans and they were asking me stuff that horny people would ask you: ‘Have you been with a man?...

Part of Alice Cooper’s enduring appeal has been the fact that, unlike many of his Seventies FM-radio peers, he always rejected the notion that rock & roll should be Serious Art. “School’s Out” is just a distant cousin of Chuck Berry’s “School Days,” and “I’m Eighteen” is inherently funny since Cooper was 23 when it became a hit, and he hasn’t stopped singing it for the past 50 years. That’s why his great Seventies albums like Love It to Death and Killer were great in the first place.

The Spanish actors are reuniting in this countryside-set comedy directed by Jesús del Cerro, which is currently in post-production. Shot over the final two months of 2020, not only does Dos vacas y una burra (lit. “Two Cows and a She-donkey”) mark a return to Spain for Jesús del Cerro (Carlitos and the Chance of a Lifetime), but it also sees two popular actors, Pablo Puyol (Boystown) and Miguel Ángel Muñoz (El crack Cero), working together again, as they did more than a decade ago in the TV series Un paso adelante, which catapulted them to stardom, garnering them untold hordes of fans of both sexes. These strapping young lads are joined by Mexican thesp Esmeralda Pimentel, Catalan actors Mario Pardo and Adriana Torrebejano (Gun City), and Romania’s Codin Maticiuc (Do It or Shut Up) on the billing of this feature. With a budget of €2 million, the rural comedy...
Bryce Hall has got one more problem thanks to Ariana Grande. The TikTok star is firing back after Ariana publicly shamed TikTokers for partying during the pandemic. While speaking on the Hollywood Raw podcast, Bryce claimed that Ariana was only dissing the influencers as a marketing stunt and called her shade "unnecessary." Bryce said on Thursday, Nov. 5, "She's not wrong but like unnecessary. Yeah. It's unnecessary to call out a specific group, especially when there's other people doing it." He speculated as to why the "Shut Up" singer zeroed in on TikTokers. "Because she knew that TikTokers have, like, a high...

How does someone like Ariana Grande follow one of pop’s greatest, boldest break-up albums? With a horny, campy collection of R&b slow jams, of course.
In all its naughty glory, Positions doesn’t teach us anything new about Grande: she’s always had a penchant for both subtle (“Imagine”) and not-so-subtle (“Side to Side”) sexual innuendos and come-ons, delivered sweetly from that Broadway-born voice of hers. Her theater kid side adds an extra dose of lightness to the project, a now-signature element of all her albums. Combined with...

As a child, Ashley McBryde learned a valuable lesson about how to present herself to people. In order to compensate for being shy, she developed a way of walking right up to an adult and introducing herself like a fully grown person might, momentarily holding her insecurities at bay.
“I noticed it would set people back, and I wasn’t afraid of them once they set back like that,” McBryde says, calling via FaceTime from her home in East Nashville. “That confidence had to be learned through faking it for a lot of years,...

DaBaby’s Super Bowl weekend in Miami was almost as busy as the players’. He played fourteen shows in three days for what he calls his “million dollar weekend.” He tracks it all in the video for new song “Shut Up,” which sees the rising star schmoozing with rap heavyweights.
The video begins with a romantic message addressed to 2020. “Now I know what me and 2019 had was special, but that’s nothing compared to what I have planned for you girl,” reads the message. “You’re mine for the next 10 months and 22 days.

COLOGNE, Germany -- German rights group Splendid Medien on Wednesday booked a first-half loss of 2.1 million ($2.6 million) and saw revenue shrink to 9.7 million ($11.8 million) in first-half 2004, compared with a year-earlier 1.7 million loss on sales of 20.5 million. Splendid blamed the drop on the disappointing boxoffice performances of French comedy Tais-toi and Canadian film Mambo Italiano, both of which Splendid acquired for the German market, and on costs related to its legal battle with Gold Circle Films.
20th Century Fox and UGC announced Friday that they will establish separate distribution organizations in France, effective Jan. 1, ending an association spanning almost a decade. "With the number of titles UGC and Fox are producing and the French market undergoing considerable changes over the past 10 years, we felt it was the logical step to separate the partnership in favor of our own separate ventures," the companies said in a joint statement. Since July 1995, UGC and Fox have operated under the joint-venture banner of UGC Fox Distribution, which has been responsible for some of the largest releases of all time in France, including Titanic, Amelie, the two Star Wars prequels, Die Another Day, Tanguy, Minority Report and Tais Toi. Further details on the structures of the ventures are forthcoming, the companies said.
