An okey dokey thriller by Hema Malini

Sharara review :

An espionage thriller produced by Hema Malini featuring her in a double role opposite Jaani Raaj Kumar and Shatrughan Sinha; Sharara also had Mithun Chakraborty and Tina Munim in a special appearance.

The story revolved around a group of gaddars (Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor and co.) who want to steal apne desh ke secrets from Army Colonel played by Raaj Kumar and hire Shotgun for the job. In an ingenuous plan, Shotgun lures the doppelganger of Colonel's wife (both Hema) and replaces her to search for the secret file. Mithun da and Tina are relegated to a song and couple of scenes only.

Despite its multiple plot loopholes, Sharara was an engaging fare with its super racy pace and some well executed action scenes. The acting department was also competent although Mithun da fans were mighty disappointed to find him in such a thankless role. It is said to be one of the main reasons for the film's commercial failure.

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Espionage film centreing around an army colonel and his wife. In order to obtain military secrets, a group of deshdrohees ( traitors) plants a doppelgänger of the colonel's wife, but you'll have to watch and see ....

Quite an absorbing thriller centred around enemy of the state attempting to pilfer secret files from an army colonel - the highly charismatic Raaj Kumar plays this character with his usual inimitable style with killer dialogues uttering from his mouth - and diabolical plan is used to obtain the files, and that's where Shatrughan Sinha - another dialogue delivery king - comes in, who swaps a doppelgänger in the colonel's wife's place.

The pace is smooth, the locations exquisite, masala elements are reduced, but don't expect oodles of Bondian action - it's more suspenseful, has some class, and Hema Malini is at the top of her game. The villainous duo Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor do their usual dastardly routine.

A good one time watch... dated but still worthwhile

Warning: Spoilers
So this movie which was a home production of Hema Malini had her, Shatrughan Sinha (a good friend of Dharmendra), RaajKumar (Hema's co star of one of her favourite movies "Kudrat") in the leading roles. Tina Munim and Mithun Chakrevotry (who would later go on to star in Hema her directorial debut as well) are in the movie too. The movie is no Seeta aur Geeta though Hema has a double role. When you watch the movie today it is a bit dated- typical 80s setup. But not that bad that you can't watch it. I wont tell anything about the story so you'll have to see it for yourself. ***SPOILER ALERT*** For me the highpoint of the movie is the murder of Tina Munim and Mithun Chakrevotry! *** END SPOILER***
