BBC Three put Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s wilfully shambolic live act and radio series, The Mighty Boosh, on TV…
Part of The Mighty Boosh’s delight comes from its unlikelihood as a TV sitcom. Its boundless Day-Glo imagination isn’t an immediate fit with the constraints of the form. A sunshine simpleton and his awkward, jazz-obsessed colleague meet mythic monsters and talking animals while performing expertly observed musical parody? It’s not exactly My Family.
As comedian, writer, and director of Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s 1999 Edinburgh show Arctic Boosh, Stewart Lee, put it, “No television exec would ever have gone ‘What we need is a kind of purple head with tentacles coming out of it which speaks like a member of the Small Faces’”.
And yet a television exec did. Granted, probably not in those exact words. After Danny Wallace opened the door...

Have you ever wondered what Jet, Wolf, and the rest of ITV's Gladiators did after the show finished? Wonder no more...
ITV’s Gladiators - the show that for eight years made children everywhere become interested in sports, eating well and keeping fit... for about five minutes on a Saturday night, then we all went back to our natural state of sitting on the settee eating sugar straight from the packet.
What was it that inspired this minor surge of enthusiasm for being buff? That would be the gladiators themselves. Every week, twelve superhuman powerhouses - six men and six women - would intimidate, bully, and otherwise humiliate whichever puny contestants stepped up to try their luck, beating or hindering them in a series of physical skill games. This took place before the big finale – where the contenders would race each other up a downwards escalator, while the gladiators were...

Russell Brand has poked fun at Wayne Rooney over the footballer's stunning goal during Manchester United's victory over West Ham United on Saturday (March 22).
Rooney impressed pundits and fans with a strike that helped deliver the 2-0 win to Manchester United, drawing comparisons to David Beckham's famous goal at Wimbledon in 1996.
Brand - a long-time West Ham supporter - was asked to compare the two strikes while sitting in with Alan Shearer, Leonardo and Gary Lineker for a Sport Relief edition of Match of the Day.
"I think David Beckham's goal is a very beautiful and iconic goal, and wasn't immediately preceded by some terrible elbow work," he quipped.
The comic then declared: "I would have to say David Beckham's [goal was better]… Ultimately, this is a day where we have to focus on the injustices that preceded Rooney's goal."
Brand went on to insist that he has not given...

Sebastian Coe beat John Bishop in their rhythmic gymnastics challenge for Sport Relief tonight (March 21).
The pair went head-to-head in the 'Clash of the Titans' task throughout this evening's live charity telethon. They each captained two teams and performed routines in front of an audience at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Team Coe won in women's pursuit cycling and rhythmic gymnastics, and Team Bishop were victorious at men's elimination race and synchronised swimming.
The teams went into the final event, swimming relay, with just one point separating them and Team Coe trailing behind. But it was Coe's group who earned the gold.
Coe said: "We've done this for an extraordinary effort tonight and I hope there are millions of young people who will benefit from everything that has been achieved. I think it was all down to my ribbons."

The football icon said it was "nerve-racking" filming the one-off scene to be used in BBC One's Sport Relief coverage later this month.
Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst return in the sketch as Del Boy and Rodney Trotter, who bump into the former England captain in Sid's Cafe.
"I'm a huge fan of the show. I have been for many years, as far back as I can remember," Beckham told Radio Times. "Being from the East End of London, it's what I was brought up on."
He continued: "The day of filming started off with a slightly sleepless night, going over my script. The thought of being on set with Nicholas and David was obviously very nerve-racking."
Creator John Sullivan's writer son Jim praised Beckham's performance, saying: "His acting and delivery were very good.

We're feeling a little sad. The Great Sport Relief Bake Off has only just come into our lives, and now it's off again - far too fleeting for our tastes. Still, before it said goodbye, we were treated to one last slice of delicious action, courtesy of Alistair McGowan, Doon Mackichan, Helen Skelton and Rochelle Humes. And there were plenty of sweet - and sour - moments. Read on to find out our favourite bits from the episode...
The Signature Challenge - Pizza
Making enough pizza to feed a family, with whatever toppings you like. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, er, no. Paul is already talking about how his 11-year-old makes great pizza, but he is Paul Hollywood's son, so he has kind of an unfair advantage. Our celebrities do not have that kind of baking gene. Things mostly go quite well to start with, though Doon soon starts seeking reassurance about her dough.

But largely, everyone's traybakes seemed to start off well (however disconcerting it was learning that Michael had played Sweeney Todd and thinking through the implications of that). It was also a joy to see Mary getting excited at the mention of cointreau in Victoria's blondies. (That and a hot toddy traybake from Michael?...

Ooh, isn't it nice to have Bake Off back? Sure, we're only getting it for four nights this week for a Sport Relief special series, but given how very January we feel, this is just enough to keep us happy. From the moment Sue was telling us to grease our muffin trays and grab our jugs, we were mentally sitting outside on a spring day tucking into a sponge.
Bonnie Wright, Johnny Vaughan, Michael Vaughan and Samantha Bond were on hand to show off their baking skills... or lack of them. And of course, there were plenty of brilliant moments for us to sink our teeth into (apart from the scones we'd brought along for snacking, of course). Read on for our favourite bits from the episode...
The Signature Bake - Sandwich Biscuits
We were told that sandwich biscuits are an "easy way to break in our Sport Relief bakers". Try telling them that.

If you're annoyed that it's still January, then don't worry - we're in for a treat tonight as The Great British Bake Off is back for its Sport Relief celebrity-packed edition!
The show will return to BBC Two this evening with Michael Vaughan, Bonnie Wright, Samantha Bond and Johnny Vaughan all doing their best to impress Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
While Michael Vaughan seems more interested in giving Mary Berry a big kiss on the cheek, the celebrity bakers will be tasked with whipping up some tasty treats as part of the effort to raise money for charity.
Among the foods the first four celebrities will be attempting to make are sandwiched biscuits and tarte tatin.
However, the showstopper bake - a 3D novelty cake representing a sporting event - is expected to separate out the pack, with Bond appearing to struggle with her baking in the picture above.

With the London Olympics fast approaching, Gary Lineker is preparing for a busy summer. We caught up with the presenter to talk sport, crisps and taking on a challenge for Sport Relief. What can you tell us about what you're up to today?
"I'm talking about the new adverts which are about to come out for Walkers' new Baked stars, in which I was quite literally baked! There were smoke things put to me but unfortunately my jumper caught fire! It was alright - I lived to tell the tale! There was no permanent damage." Did you ever imagine that you would still be working with Walkers all these years later?
"It's been a long time now - maybe 18 years. I think it's quite comfortably the longest-running celebrity-endorsed campaign. It's been great though; a lot of good fun along the way and good fun for all parties. What's not to...

After completing his final record, Freddie said: “It’s been an emotional day and it didn’t start off too well this morning. I was too heavy for the bungee and I couldn’t drive. But it was no secret that the one I really wanted was the pedalo – so I am thrilled I got that. Steve Harmison joined me for part of the day and he helped me get two records. It’s been a fantastic day, I’ve set 14 records and the best bit is it’s all been to raise money for Sport Relief.”

John Bishop has begun the first of three marathons which will see him complete his Sport Relief 'Week of Hell'. The comedian's challenge has seen him so far cycle 185 miles from Paris to Calais, where he joined celebrity rowers Davina McCall, Freddie Flintoff and Denise Lewis to cross the English Channel. Despite suffering from exhaustion, Bishop and his supporters arrived in Dover yesterday evening, completing the second stage of his 290-mile journey. At 9am this morning, Bishop - said to have been in high spirits - set off on his first marathon, on which he was joined for the first leg by Radio 1 presenter Comedy Dave Vitty. However, the Liverpudlian took a tumble just a few miles in when his legs buckled. With no injuries sustained, he continued running, and was later joined by presenter Dermot O'Leary.

We never liked Katy Brand’s ITV2 sketch show and didn’t find her very funny at all. However she really won us over during her time on BBC’s Let’s Dance For Sport Relief.
Her booty shaking, booby bouncing routine to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ mightily impressed our live blogger Gerard. He said:
There was a moment when I saw Katy in costume and felt a vague thrill in my loins. Her performance of Single Ladies is priceless, it’s funny, but the big girl can actually move. And those thighs… *ahem* she might be the only one to present a serious challenge to Rufus Hound.
Judge Comments:
John Culshaw: I have never seen attitude like it. That was not just a performance, that was a force of nature
Jack Dee: Lay Z is out there wondering if he is living with the real Beyonce or not.
