Great piece of promotion for 1924 U.S. Republican Presidential candidate Calvin Coolidge, the incumbent since the midterm death of Warren Harding. A distant relative of Vermont's mid-19th Century Governor Carlos Coolidge, Calvin was noted for his "rock-ribbed" heritage and dedication to his New England heritage, which is beautifully (by pre-code standards) rendered herein. Also renowned for his quiet demeanor, Calvin declined his party's nomination for reelection in 1928 with a 10 word statement to that effect. This speaker of America's first presidential radio broadcast thus lived up to his moniker "Silent Cal".
