Good sex. Boring story. Horrible music.
dbrown-0702042 May 2004
Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.

Somebody really needed to give the producers of this video a reality check before they made it. And maybe a hearing check as well. The story in this video is as boring and predictable as you can get and really just takes away from valuable sex time. The producers should have known this and reacted appropriately by giving us either a more interesting story, or less story and more sex. I would have gone with the latter. And since the story revolves around an all-girl band, there are several musical segments. And what songs do our girls lipsynch to during these segments? Why, it's all the junk that they usually play during the sex scenes from previous Image/Playboy softcore releases. Wheee!

Fortunately, the people who authored the DVD took pity on the poor viewer. There are about two dozen chapter stops. So all you need to do is learn which ones take you directly to the beginning of each sex scene and you won't have to suffer any on repeated viewings.

There are eight sex scenes. Seven are boy/girl, and one is girl solo. Fortunately, the producers did a really good job on all of them. They are all full sex scenes, that is, none of them are annoyingly interrupted halfway through. The sounds of the actors/actresses are audible over the background music. The five women who participate in the sex scenes are all attractive and put in some great performances. It's pretty explicit stuff that pushes to the limits of softcore. Unfortunately, there's no lesbian scene which is really unforgivable in a movie about an all girl rock band when you think about it.

Since the sex is so good, I still recommend this one. But don't expect anything in this movie to hold your interest between the sex scenes.

Better than the Sapphire Girls, really....I give it a B-
Smooth B15 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I just sat down tonight to watch "Vinyl Dolls", and I'd be kidding myself if I didn't immediately think of the softcore atrocity "Sapphire Girls" while I was watching this.

The Vinyl Dolls are an all-girl rock band. They have a certain sound (lip-synched, of course) that sounds very reminiscent of 80's arena rock. While they do stumble through several songs in this film (and occasionally forget to look like they're playing their instruments), the music serves as the backdrop.

The story begins as the girls lose their lead singer/guitarist right before a string of big shows. Now they have to hold auditions! After everyone but the drummer leaves to get some lunch, in walks Finola. Oh yeah, Nola....a curvy yet mysterious woman with a nice voice and a decent guitar. The rest of the band are sold on her, but what they don't know about is her shady past, which comes back to haunt her in a big way.

Doyle, a guy she used to hang with (and supposedly committed armed robberies with) shows up at one of her shows and wants some drugs he left in the back of her car. Secondly, because of the robberies, Nola is wanted by the cops! A deputy sheriff who frequents the club the Dolls play at now has to play cop and ask a bunch of questions while also keeping his growing feelings for Nola in check. Furthermore, a talent scout from Comet Records has been peeking around the club, sampling the merchandise, and is waving a record contract in Nola's face!!! What are the Dolls to do?? Have lots of sex, of course.

I noticed I haven't talked about the sex yet. Keeping with the recent trend to make softcore sex scenes look as hardcore as possible, the sex in "Vinyl Dolls" was pretty good. In fact, I was impressed with the loud moaning going on--and it wasn't canned noise either. I liked the sex scenes quite a bit. Unfortunately, Beverly Lynne wasn't in enough of them, but the two she was in were fine with me.

The bottom line is this--If you can stand the 80's sounding rock songs and can stop laughing while Beverly Lynne tries her best to be the best bass player ever, this one just might be tapeworthy. The sex scenes may be enough to make the average Skinemax viewer hang around for a while.

Women: B (I'm really warming up to Beverly Lynne. I don't know what it is about her, but with each passing movie, I'm moving her higher on my list. Maybe it's the sheer number of movies she's been in the past few years--I'm not sure. Jezebelle Bond was decent, but the scene stealer was Tiffany Shepis as Nola, the mysterious new lead singer. I don't know where she came from, but I'd sure like to see more of her.)

Sex: B (Solid, very solid. I liked the moaning, and seeing Beverly out of her clothes. A couple of the scenes could've used some more "oomph" which is why I have to take some points off.)

Story: C+ (The struggling-to-get-noticed rock band loses their lead singer and gets a new one with a past. Lots of things happen in the meantime. New singer almost gets busted for armed robbery. Band gets contract. It sounds like an episode of "Behind The Music." It's a nice story, but it's the old "girl band" plot with a few wrinkles thrown in. I wasn't very impressed with the storyline, so off come the points.)

Overall: B- (The filmmakers made good use of Beverly Lynne, having her take her clothes off when it looked like the movie was spinning its wheels a bit. Tiffany Shepis almost stole the movie with her performance, and she looked like the only one who was really into the band scenes. I know they're not really playing or singing, but at least put on a decent show....I know Tiffany did! In short, the sex scenes carried "Vinyl Dolls" and that's why I graded it high, even though it came up short in the story department.)

Junk (except for Ms. Shepis)
BandSAboutMovies3 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Vinyl Dolls seem ready for the big time if they can just all get along. Sadly, right before their biggest shows ever, their lead singer quits. Then they meet FInola who is actress Tiffany Shepis, the entire reason to watch this, and such a great part of Delta Delta Die!, Tales of Halloween, Victor Crowley and so many movies that she's the best part of.

There's some kind of plot here, but all the sex scenes get in the way. When I was a teenager, I would have said that there's a plot that keeps getting in the way of the sex, so I feel like I've made some growth in my life. Also, Jezebelle Bond and Kelsey Hart are in this, and if you instantly know their names, you've done some personal growth of your own at one time of another in your life.

Director Buddy Beale made exactly this one movie. This was his shot, his dream project and this is what he gave us. A Cinemax ready movie made years after that was no longer a thing anyone wanted. Rock and roll?

The effort worths the watch. Lots of sex!
insomniac_rod14 May 2006
Face it. You got this movie because of the sex scenes or because you are a fan of Tiffany Shepis. The idea is not bad overall and could've been used in a movie with a better budget but I thank the producers for making it a b-movie with lots of sex.

The best feature about "Vinyl Dolls" (Sex Goddesses is the title for the movie in Mèxico...) are the hot women.

Jezebelle Bond, Tiffany Shepis and company make a hot rock band and one of the most attractive casts I've seen. The sex scenes are kinky and long. The actresses fore-mentioned deliver the best scenes in my opinion.

Watch this movie if you enjoy pop-punk, hot sexy women, and hot sex scenes. This is my kind of entertainment. Be sure to get the unrated DVD.

Vinyl Dolls is a "Feel good" film with possibly a pleasant surprise
Window55518 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
OK! I admit it. I watched this movie, hoping for some nice soft-core porn, and, perhaps, a little story line to keep it interesting enough to watch between the sex scenes. Also, although my expectations were not high, with the all girl band, I was hoping for a few girl/girl scenes (Actually, I was hoping for ALL girl/girl scenes). I was more than just a little disappointed about that (that may be a spoiler, so I'm checking "Spoiler," although that may matter little to most potential viewers).

However, I was pleasantly surprised when Tiffany Shepis (whose name is unfamiliar to me) joined the band, and the music actually sounded very pleasant (a very nice 80's rock type sound that I just happen to really enjoy). What a surprise! Now, I may have poor taste in music (although I really don't think so, because I play the tenor sax, love music, and I am really discriminating in my musical taste -for example, I dislike rap music in general, but I really enjoyed the rap music background theme to the movie "Dangerous Minds"), but music, like comedy, is subjective, and what sounds great to me, may cause your ears to bleed.

Still, I'm curious, I wonder if anybody else actually enjoyed the music after Tiffany Shepis became lead singer? Well, the "Dolls" were quite physically attractive, making them easy on the eyes, which complemented what our ears were experiencing, and maybe that, combined with Tiffany's sexy little crooked smile (which was so endearing that it affected me physically – in a good way) to enhance their overall visual and musical output.

I think the sex scenes (although lacking any lesbian encounters – How could they do that? It just isn't right. Isn't there some sort of law against that? If there isn't, there should be.) offered some of the best soft-core "get-togethers" that you could hope to find in this type of film. I know, my sentences tend to be a bit long - I'm working on it. Again, the girls were all beautiful and on screen a large amount of the time. If the music doesn't offend you, and you don't mind sacrificing a little "depth of plot" for excellent visual stimulation and a bonus "Feel good ending," I would recommend this delightfully light and pleasant story.

Also,(keeping in mind that it is so very easy to prejudge, and feel that no music in a low budget soft porn film of this type could possibly be good – and this is a safe and easy assumption to make), I have a feeling that some viewers (if they really keep an open mind) may truly enjoy a large portion of the music that this film has to offer.
