- The third of three different travelogues James A. FitzPatrick mined from Hone Glendinning's photography in late 1953 and early 1954. Lots of shots of the Hagenbeck Zoo, churches and streets comparing old and new sections.
- A visit to four West German cities a few years after World War II. In Hamburg, buildings are going up in large numbers, but the destruction of war is still visible. We visit the city's zoo. In Bremen, we see a few landmarks, including the town hall, and a busy river port. In Munich, their cheese and beer is Bavaria's finest. Last, we stop in Heidelberg - no longer the scene of the student prince, yet with old world charm to go with new commerce. The generosity of the victors and a new-found love of peace marks this nation that may one-day unite with the East.—<jhailey@hotmail.com>
- This travelogue of West Germany begins in its second largest city, Hamburg, one of Europe's most important seaports despite its inland location. Much of the city was destroyed during WWII and almost a decade later that damage is still evident despite reconstruction. A specific site visited is Hagenbeck Zoo which houses a vast array of exotic animals side by side unlike they would be in nature. The next city stop is Bremen, another seaport, the second largest in Germany, and like Hamburg also situation inland. One unusual landmark is a windmill which seems out of place in Germany. The next city stop is the capital of Bavaria, Munich, München in German. A specific site visited is the town hall which houses the world famous clock carillon chiming in performance at 11:00 every morning. Bavaria and Munich in certain circles are best known for beer and celebrations around the beverage. The final city stop is Heidelberg, a university town famous for the legend of the student prince. With the visit to these four cities, there is a hope for a new post-war spirit to bring the country and the entire fatherland together in peace.—Huggo
