Quality Dorcel includes many red herrings

Warning: Spoilers
The '90s and turn of this century Marc Dorcel videos are far more interesting than his recent product, probably because they predate a certain predictable format the porn purveyor has settled down to in his waning years. "Scent of Desire" is intriguing and holds up well as sex with a story line.

Structure is superficially like a thousand American horror films in the modern era: a group of youngsters entering into peril. The setting is a mansion lorded over by Philippe Dean in the role of Jason (that sure sounds like an American horror film character), and actress turned director Angela Tiger has the cast seemingly offed one by one by a knife-wielding mystery character. Even a "Psycho" knifing in the shower is included.

But that's all strictly a ruse, as no one's getting killed. Something was lost in translation explaining these odd goings-on, but once I got used to the imaginary nature of all the violence I could follow the rest of the film's trajectory.

It seems the mansion was once a brothel (again, an over-used horror gimmick, second only to Indian Burial Grounds as clichéd set-up material), and we see an orgy of sorts occurring there in much earlier times. The reason for the kids to visit Philippe was left obscure, but overall the suspense was well-maintained.

And the sex scenes are excellent, in the explicit yet glamorous Dorcel style. Heroine Melanie Coste is quite a looker, and has a wonderful fantasy sex picnic opposite Pascal St. James that is split into two separate vignettes and visually the highlight of the show.

Monica Sweetheart, looking a bit different in her early day as international starlet, is terrific in a three-way also involving Coste, and the rest of the cast including Tiffany Diamond and Ian Scott give arousing performances. As stated, the fakery of the violence was at first off-putting, but giving this classic video a full viewing proves to be a rewarding experience.
