Very watchable cable fodder
Mark Harrison15 April 2004
This move helped me take a break from a frustrating maths PhD problem. Its the kind of thing you can watch when you have your mind on something else, or out of the corner of your eye while doing some household chores. The film is Canadian but the story is supposed to be set in New York, which doesn't come over too well because the streets are too clean and Celeste (Shannen Doherty) can afford a great apartment with an average job!

This not withstanding plot is not too difficult to follow and flows smoothly. While being somewhat two dimensional the characters didn't bore me. On the whole I found it above average for the material my cable company pads their lineup with. Definitely a good way to spend a rainy afternoon, 6/10.

"Someone's Watching Me (1978)" rip off
Anrachman19 July 2017
I watched this movie because I wanted to see Shannen Doherty, but when I saw it, I found this movie is very similar with "Someone's Watching Me (1978)", almost exactly the same, I already knew what's gonna happen next and next..., so I really disappointed, I didn't get any thrills at all. I don't know if this movie is an official remake or not, but if it's not, then this is a total rip-off. There's only two differences that makes this movie different from "Someone Watching Me (1978)", first, this movie is happened in modern time, so the stalker uses hidden camera now (not just sound transmission device), and oh, the stalking is done by different character, that's the only (small) thing that made me surprised at the end of movie.

Actually because of that, I wanted to give this movie a 1 star, but since I'm Shannen Doherty fans I decide to give 5 stars (yes I know I have pretty shallow reason to rate, but there it is).

Cheesy cheap tacky mindless
Brian B-228 September 2003
A diverting mess of tittilation and suspense that works best at the beginning and the end. Despite being brief, the middle portion lacked punch. Weak acting and corny dialogue. Less sexy than it hints at.

Not a total waste of time, but more for killing time than any other reason to watch this.

Better than the average Life Time Network Movie
HeartMonger1 March 2004
Okay, who ever said that Shannen Doherty is only a television movie actress was wrong when they said that, but they were even more wrong when they said that the movies she made were bad. Sure television movies are kind of tacky, but this one was an exception. Shannen Doherty portrays Celeste, a resturante owner who moves to a posh New York apartment and immediatly falls prey to a stalker. As usual, Shannen Donherty gives a powerhouse performance and the rest of the cast is equally fine. The music keeps you on the edge while suprisingly good camera work draws your emotions in. Set in a standard tone, this film does not let up, but what would you expect from a Shannendo film!

curtains (drapes)
droffilkv18 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The 'victim' living in an expensive apartment block in a big city doesn't have drapes (curtains/blinds) in her apartment (until 30 minutes into the movie when she unsuccessfully tries to staple bedsheets over the windows) and chooses to walk around in a thong at night...give us a break! The blond bimbo boss with a heart of gold flashes her eyes at the Mick Jagger clone too often and the magazine reading security guard with the short tie and big hat is a parody of a parody. The other blond bimbo who only styles his hair when he goes outside is just TOO obvious. If you like: sideburns that don't reach the wig; armpit hair; guitar solo accompaniment to soft porn; breasts real and depicted in wall hangings/sculpture AND women with big feet and short trousers you will love this movie.

Promising Canadian actor shines above dull movie
kyle_jk8 August 2005
**** warning may contain details of the movie's plot **** I watched this typical made for TV movie hoping something was different. The plot was ordinary and very predictable. Most of the acting was weak and dry showing no character depth. Who really cared what happened to Shannon's character. The only bright side to this movie was the Canadian actor Sean Tucker. Although not given a huge roll, most of the movie displaying Shannon's sub-par acting abilities, Sean seemed to have made the most of what he was given. He played his part well dropping subtle hints of what his character was up to while not giving too much away. He played the villain well striking fear into the viewer's mind with his cold stare and deep, menacing voice. It was unfortunate that more emphasis wasn't put on Sean's character as he was the only bright spot of the movie.

An enjoyable archetypical thriller...
paul_haakonsen25 November 2019
While this 2003 movie from director Louis Bélanger might not be overly known, it actually turned out to be an enjoyable movie.

And yes, it has Shannen Doherty in the lead role, but she definitely is much more than stuck in the Brenda Walsh role from the "Beverly Hill 90210" TV show. Sure, she might not make major blockbusters, but she actually is enjoyable to watch in movie. And while the movies she appears in might not always be super great, this 2003 movie was actually quite good.

The storyline is straightforward and has a nice archetypical feel to it, in terms of how stalker movies go. I might actually dare to say that it felt like watching a thriller from the height of the 90s. Take that as you will.

I was definitely adequately entertained by the events that took place throughout the story told in "View of Terror". However, this is hardly a movie that you will watch more than once.

While there isn't an abundance of familiar actors or actresses on the cast list, it should be said that the acting performances put on throughout the course of the movie by the various performers were actually good.

My rating of "View of Terror" is a five out of ten stars.

better than average lifetime movie network fair. Shannon Dougherty prooves she's can act, and not just eye candy. A woman needs space from her overly jealous boyfriend and moves into a 1 bedroom condo , low and behold she is stalked the same night that she moves in,, except here we are presented with several possible killers,, so it is a good who dunnit kinda movie.. there isn't much sex in this movie, not too much violence, this is kinda a voyeuristic movie with cameras , telescopes,, pictures that kinda thing,, it seems as though this movie is told through the eye's of the voyeur,, because you always see those shots of the killer watching the girl through the telescope, overall though it is not a bad movie , and better than the usual stuff on lifetime.

If you leave your cage I'll open this one!

Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** Young and pretty magazine illustrator Celeste, Shannen Doherty, is stalked throughout the movie "Nightlight" by this shadowy and threatening phone caller who seems to know every move that she makes.

It soon becomes obvious to Celeste that the person calling her lives across he street from her apartment building and tries to catch him in the act by spying, with a telescope, on him herself. With the help of the buildings-where the caller supposedly resides- doorman Derrek, Sean Tucker, Celeste finds in his apartment not only a telescope but a number of photos of herself, mostly scantly dressed, that the suspect David Jacobsen, Charles Edwin Powell, took of her with a telephoto lens.

As it turns out David, who was arrested by the police, did have a large porno collection of DVD's and video tapes, which wasn't a crime, but swore that the photo's of Celeste found in his apartment weren't his. Later with David behind bars the caller continued to hearses Celeste proving that David, as he said all along, was innocent of the charges against him. Things got even more bizarre when Celeste's boyfriend, whom she earlier dumped, out of work actor Brent, Michal Francoeur, stating showing up around Celeste's apartment dressed in a jogging suit, with a hood, in order to protect her from her stalker. As it later turned out Brent needed Celeste, not the other way around, to not only protect him but save his life.

Nothing really surprising her with both Canadian cities Montreal and Quebec subbing for New York City with Celeste's stalker, and threatening caller, being so obvious that he stuck out like a sore thumb before he even reveled himself. The movie's ending was a bit too contrived in that the so careful stalker, who had since graduated from just being an unwanted caller, completely blew his cover by coming out in the open and getting his hands on an unsuspecting Celeste.

***SPOILERS***Not that surprising of an ending with the threatening phone caller and now kidnapper, of not only Celeste but her pet parrot Kiddy, coming out of the shadows and surprising almost no one but the very naive Celeste to who he really is. We get this big speech, in the phone calling psycho trying to explain his off-the-wall actions, from the deranged phone caller himself, in person not on the telephone. The guy goes on and on in how he's looked down upon by the rich and famous and treated like dirt by them and this, what he's doing to Celeste, is payback time! This in his unstable and warped mind is the reason that he made Celeste's life a living hell on earth! What I couldn't quite understand is why he picked on a working girl, who's having trouble paying her rent, like Celeste who didn't quite fit into that category?

Worth watching!
duesouth14208 September 2007
This was actually a very good "lifeless" movie (that is what my husband calls them). He woke up in the middle and was actually watching. I don't know what there is about Shannen Dougherty but I think she is a very good actress..I really do. She leaves her lover because they are constantly fighting and gets her own apartment in downtown NY and her nightmares begin. Someone is stalking her via telescope from the apartment building across the street. Horrible, disguised, scary phone calls to her are creepy.! I have to admit she does everything possible to try and get out of her situation. Let's just say I watch a lot of Lifetime movies and this one has some twists and turns that keep you guessing!

Keeps You Guessing
lavatch22 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Without the magic of Hitchcock, this is a "Rear Window"-style film about a perverted character spying upon another in a posh New York apartment building. The suspense is decent as the main character Celeste attempts to discover who is her nemesis.

Celeste is a woman from Ohio, who has come to the big city to work for her friend Tasha. Brent is an actor who has started a romantic relationship with Celeste. But their arguments have led Celeste to move out and take time away from Brent. But her new abode leads to a living nightmare with the perpetrator who has disrupted her life.

"View of Terror" is a by-the-numbers mystery that keeps the audience guessing about the identity of the voyeur. A number of suspect begins to emerge from a balanced set of characters: the sleazy apartment manager named Glenn Moser, Celeste's sultry friend Tasha, the extroverted neighbor David Jacobsen, a non-descript security guard named Derrick, and Justine Jameson, who left her job in a nearby flower shop because she was harassed by the deranged voyeur, who eventually killed her boyfriend.

As the tension builds, the list of possible suspects is narrowed down to the inevitable. It will then be up to Celeste to defeat the forces of evil due to the lack of support from an incompetent police force that spends unlimited time in interviews with Celeste and virtually no time in investigation.

Very entertaining TV movie
Agnelin22 October 2006
This film is an enjoyable, easy-to-follow mystery drama. It revolves around Celeste (Shannen Doherty), a beautiful young woman who moves out to a nice new flat after breaking up with her somewhat aggressive boyfriend. Shortly afterwards, she'll begin to be harassed by a stalker who's apparently watching and following her.

The plot is not complicated but it isn't quite as predictable as one might think, and the story moves on without any major complications. It does get repetitive in the middle part, as it becomes a dangerous cat-and-mouse game between Celeste and her stalker, in her efforts to chase him down by herself; however, it never gets boring and it kept my interest until the ending. The acting is good and the movie, while not being complex, is very entertaining and set in very chic environments. Definitely an above average TV movie. Shannen Doherty's fans must see it too.

This is one of the best movies I have watched .
HbergerhornDN25 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This was a true example of just how talented Shannen Doherty really is, her performance was astonishing and you really felt for her character in this movie, you could almost feel the fear and panic she felt, if you are a collector of her films this is a must to have. Even though this movie came out in 2003 is shows just how important certain subjects are to the Lifetime Network, this is by far one of the best movies I have seen in a long time, the main subject and its message on the seriousness on Stalking was really well represented in this movie and left you to wonder how far the justice system has come in the three years since this movie was made in correcting the issue.

i found the beggining of this film particularly moving as the performance given by shannon was excellent if anything that made up for the somewhat dubiouse story line and directing.also this film itself at times held the viewers only because of the presence of suspence and acting that took place by about 2 good actors in the whole film.

One of the best TV movies in recent years!
swanscrossingfan2 March 2004
I saw this film last night on Lifetime under the title "View Of Terror." I thought it was great! Shannen is amazing here, she really delivers in this role! This movie has so many twists, and it will keep you guessing until the end, at least it kept me guessing until the end! I would have never guessed in a million years what was going to happen! The film also seemed to have a good budget, and looked a lot better that regular TV-fare! I WILL watch it again if I ever see it on, and I wish it would be released on DVD. Sure, there are a VERY FEW things that, if changed, would make it better, but it is great! Do not think twice before watching this wonderful movie! You won't regret it!

A bit like a porn film without the porn.
allyatherton13 February 2015
OK that's what if felt like to me. Right from the beginning the acting and the whole atmosphere of this film made it look like a late night porn film without the porn.

It was probably something to do with the actors who all looked like they had been drafted in from the set of Lucy does Dallas or Majorca or whatever (or whoever) Lucy is doing at the moment.

Once I got into it it wasn't bad actually. The story kind of hooked me and I was pleasantly surprised. Apart from the obviously low budget it was quite enjoyable to watch. It was like a whodunnit with a twist, the twist being the fact that nobody has been killed.

This is not the best film ever made but it kept my interest.
