New York — While all haircuts are important, the one Billy Porter got late last week was even more critical: It was his last trim before Sunday's Tony Awards.
"I just need a trim," he tells stylist Valjean Guerra, crunching his hair with both hands to show the textured look he hopes to maintain. "I want to keep the same shape."
Porter, nominated for best actor in a musical for his role as a drag queen in "Kinky Boots," then settled into a leather chair in a chic Harlem salon for an hour of pampering before a cast album party and another grueling show.
It was nine days before the Tonys – the perfect amount of time to wash and trim what he calls his "chunky thing." If done too close to the awards, his haircut might look forced.
"I like it to breathe a little bit. I don't want it to...

Whetting fans' appetites for the show's second season, a snippet of a music video from "The Client List" starring Jennifer Love Hewitt was released on Monday (February 4).
The sexy video features the 33-year-old actress singing and strutting her stuff in some skimpy lingerie. Speaking about the concept to Entertainment Tonight, the Heartbreakers star explains, "I had a dream about it in the middle of the night." Professing her love for the song, "I'm a Woman" from the Broadway play "Smokey Joe's Cafe," Jennifer adds that she had to do something burlesque-oriented "to shake things up a bit."
In the Lifetime series, Ms. Hewitt plays a Texas single mother who secretly also provides sexual favors for money at a day spa.
Though it may be a bit controversial, she shares, "I feel like we've been able to take an unconventional story line and make it female empowerment in some weird way.

Beverly Hills, Calif. — When most singers make the leap from recording artist to movie star, it's usually a well-calculated career maneuver that requires show-business acumen from an army of agents, acting coaches, managers and publicists. However, for bubbly sixth season "American Idol" champion Jordin Sparks, the jump from stage to screen just, well, kinda happened.
The way Sparks tells the story of how she became the title character in a remake of the 1976 musical "Sparkle" is that her music career was unexpectedly in flux last year while she was parting ways with her management and her label was undergoing a shake-up. Unable to record a new album and uncertain of her future, Sparks looked to another passion – acting.
"I was in this weird limbo and `Sparkle' just fell into my lap," Sparks says. "My agent sent it to me and said, `What do you think? Do you wanna audition?'...

Before she was finalist on "The X Factor," 42-year-old Stacy Francis sang at birthday parties...for Tom Cruise.
The singer performed for Cruise at his 2004 birthday party aboard Scientology's 440-foot cruise ship "Freewinds." YouTube videos show the singer serenading Cruise with tunes from his mega-hit "Top Gun" including "Take my breath away" and "You've lost that lovin' feelin'." She also engages in a duet with Cruise of "Old time rock and roll" from his film "Risky Business."
Francis' professional singing past has sparked a bit of controversy among "X Factor" fans as the show is looking for undiscovered talent. But it appears, according to sites including Perez Hilton, that Francis has performed in film and TV. Additionally she worked on Broadway in "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and "Street Corner Symphony."
Here's the video of her performance at the Tom Cruise birthday.

Los Angeles — Jerry Leiber, who with longtime partner Mike Stoller wrote "Hound Dog," "Jailhouse Rock," "Yakety Yak" and other hit songs that came to define early rock `n' roll, died Monday. He was 78.
He was surrounded by family when he died unexpectedly of cardiopulmonary failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said his longtime publicist, Bobbi Marcus.
With Leiber as lyricist and Stoller as composer, the team channeled their blues and jazz backgrounds into pop songs performed by such artists as Elvis Presley, Dion and the Belmonts, the Coasters, the Drifters and Ben E. King in a way that would help create a joyous new musical style.
From their breakout hit, blues great Big Mama Thornton's 1953 rendition of "Hound Dog," until their songwriting took a more serious turn in 1969 with Peggy Lee's recording of "Is That All There Is?" the pair remained one of the most successful teams in pop music history.
