Brainy, not for everyone, but highly recommended...!

This is not a scary film. This is not a bloody film. It is very artistic and DOES require a BRAIN to properly enjoy it. If you are looking blood and guts, move on. However, if you are looking for something a bit deeper, then this is for you.

I have shown this film in my classroom and the kids really do enjoy it. The late-1800's language is clearly understandable and faithfully presents the imagery from the poem. It really helps them to understand what is going on and helps layout the subtexts. It even raises a few new questions and really gets them thinking.

This film should also not be compared to big-budget Hollywood productions. This film obviously had a low budget, and yes, it does suffer in a few places because of it. But the production crew seems to have squeezed very dollar for everything that they could and should be applauded for it.

In short, if you think that movies like the recent HOUSE OF WAX or FINAL DESTINATION are scary and what a horror movie should be, then you really shouldn't bother. Otherwise, pick this film up and enjoy!

This rendition of The Raven is simply superb!

Unfortunately, my friends and I have only seen this film on a 21' monitor from the Trilobite Pictures website (I could imagine how chilling it would be on a movie screen), but I must say how impressed we all were. The direction and production design are simply magnificent. The mechanical puppet as well as being filmed in black and white well sets the gloomy and eerie atmosphere for this film. Louis Morabito portrays the narrator's part splendidly. He is well believed and heart-felt. I hope to see this upcoming actor in more films. I highly recommend seeing this short film and Peter; please bring a screening closer to Philly area.

Superb? I wouldn't go that far

What's so different about this film than with every other 'Raven' ever made? I saw one that was original in the fact that it wasn't even a bird at all. It was a woman and they had her perched above the chamber door. It was actually pretty good. Another thing interesting about it was that it wasn't told in from the author's point of view. It was told from both his and The Raven's. I wouldn't say it was scarier, but then again I would say this particular Raven was scary either.

The only serious issue I had was with the bird itself. It wasn't at the level of the rest of the film. The film was okay, but it could have been better. A lot better.

A well done tribute to Poe

I have seen this film twice, once at its original screening in 2002 and once again at a screening in 2003. While the film had an extremely low budget, there is no evidence of that in the Production Design. Also the film, shot on 16mm Black and White, is very well shot and the Director of Photography deserves all the praise he gets. If this short shows near you, I recommend you get seats.
