Los Angeles-based DIC Entertainment, the kids animation house behind such franchises as Inspector Gadget and Strawberry Shortcake, is embarking on a major expansion as a result of going public in the U.K. last month, it emerged Thursday. The animation house is evaluating the launch of a 24-hour digital kids channel in the U.S., among other initiatives, according to company CEO Andy Heyward. He added that DIC also is in talks about acquiring a home video distribution company. Heyward said in an interview that the company is aggressively pursuing market acquisitions for content and distribution, including digital television, home entertainment and mobile as well as for other emerging technologies.
