NEW YORK -- Two hours of House repeats carried Fox over the finish line in adults 18-49 ahead of sparse original competition with the second night of Identity and an hour of ABC's sitcom Big Day.
After a strong premiere Monday following Deal or No Deal, Identity had some trouble flying on its own. It won its 8 p.m. time period in the demo -- barely -- against repeats on CBS and Fox and a holiday program on ABC and was down severely from Monday night's premiere.
Identity averaged 8.2 million viewers and a 2.9 rating/8 share in adults 18-49, according to preliminary estimates released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research. That was just ahead of ABC's I Want a Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown (8.7 million, 2.8/8) in the demo and nowhere near CBS' repeat NCIS (11.2 million, 2.5/7) in viewership.
Fox's 8 p.m. House (6.9 million, 2.6/8) was nothing to write home about but that changed at 9 p.m. with another repeat that won its time period with 10 million viewers and a 3.8/10 in the demo.
