A fun little romp through cliche-burning parodyland
tim_sparks16 December 2003
I am rating this on a 'Low-Budget Movie Scale', this is no Titanic to be certain. This is "Ed Wood meets Sam Rami in the White Castle Parking Lot with a camcorder and a bucket of blood", it's cheesy, it's low budget, and it's fresh.

Usually when you get a low budget film, the scenes are poorly lit, the volume is too low and/or distorted, and the acting is disinterested, like the people are just there to make their 50 dollars and go home. Not this film. Easy to watch and to listen to, and with a hilarious soundtrack to boot. All apparently done on 20 bucks in cash, a bag of returnables, some spit and polish, and a promise.

This little low budget gem is a hoot! It takes a while to pick up steam but when it does, it rolls along nicely. And jokes all the way, fun little stabs at movie cliches and some truly fun dialogue. The Stan Wackerman character in particular sticks out as a great parody character. And the product parodies are fun too.

Watch a few bad horror films before you watch this, to enhance your enjoyment of their cliche parodying.

A horrific tale of dental hell!
honus_rogers20 September 2005
Talk about a vendetta! In Arbor Daze, a deranged environmental psychopath decides to exact his revenge on environmental polluters in every which way possible. It's certainly a low-budget digital movie, but the writing shows signs of freshness and the acting ain't the worst you've seen in an indie film. The script can get a little preachy at times, but these guys sure seem to have enjoyed researching and making this film. There are some funny catch-phrases and physical comedy that lead you to believe that bigger things could be happening for this group. Remember, it's all fun and games until someone loses an arm to the enraged spirit of the woods!

8 out of 10 stars for sheer lunacy and originality of the story.

Someone's seen a lot of horror films

Not too bad. I popped this in on recommendation from someone, they had a copy, and it starts off slow but it gets better. Obviously a low budget film, but not annoying. Nice job on the arm sequence. LOL. I'd say give it a looksee if you can find it.

Fun!

I was expecting another typical horror movie with some bare breasts and crappy dialogue and not much else. I got no nudity (damn it!) but on the other hand an atypical plot that actually went somewhere, with lots of hilarious dialogue. What was up with the shoes. Bizarre!

Great job guys. Can't wait to see your next project.

Great rainy day fun!!

If you're a fan of horror, parody, amateur film-making, or you're anti-insect repellent then this is definitely for you!

Some of your "horror classics" have underlying messages(social, political, theological, etc.)that didn't usually find full fruition in their audience. Sure, every film critic caught 'em but you didn't know until you purchased your "20th Anniversary Criterion Collection Platinum Series" DVD. Did you debate consumerism in the 1980's after your initial viewing of "Dawn of the Dead"? No. I'm betting you still don't and that's totally awesome, dude. See ya at the mall.

That is just one of the reasons I embrace the beautiful, low-budget "Arbor Daze". It is so overly blatant in it's exploitation of it's message. All of the environmental stances and most of the jokes are delivered with such a dryness that they should seduce you into rewind-button pushing giggle fits time and again. The hilarious over-the-top performance by Jeff Priskorn is more than welcome.

So, please, do yourself a favor at your next Halloween party and pop in this "Wizard of Oz" meets Al Gore's "Evil Dead". Oh yeah...BEWARE THE WOODS!!!

Fun B-Quality Film, Fun Sound Track
ggadwa23 January 2004
A solid effort, good acting, pretty good dialog (most of the time), and surprisingly good finally result though the cheapness of the production shines through sometimes.

The sound track has some great (because you can laugh at them!) songs in it by a really cliche heavy metal band called "Access Violate". I'm not sure where the producers dug them up but they should consider putting them back into whatever satanic rock they found them under. With song titles like "Satanic Scouts", "Witch Hunt Bar-b-que" and "Backdoor b***h" (no kidding!) then the band members might not want to quit their day jobs at taco bell.

Bring the beer.

Saw it intoxicated and still liked it. As a small indi flick its quite funny and interesting. The spoofs of various "real" products in the film is a riot. The acting is not half bad, and really plays quite well when you consider that these folks were not professionals. The writing and humor are really great. Sound, editing and lighting were all excellent.

Worth every penny we paid!

A great movie to bring a date to. Me and my date were very pleased to see this movie didn't suck canal water. Worth every penny we paid for it. In fact I am considering the option of buying the DVD and some movie SWAG. I thought I saw Rick O'Casic and Kurt Cobain in the movie but the names didn't show up in the credits.

If you have to see one movie made by one of my cow-orkers, this is the movie to see.

A funny movie which shows excellent potential
bruce-25418 April 2004
I really enjoyed watching this film. I laughed out loud several times, and was entertained throughout.

It's obviously a low budget production, but done very well, considering. As others have pointed out, the audio and video quality are good, and the directors and actors clearly had fun making this.

The film satririzes horror films, product marketing, and the environmental movement.

Check it out, kick back and enjoy!

Timeless classic
generic_eric23 January 2004
I can say without reservation that this is truly the "Citizen Kane" of ecologically-themed horror movie spoofs. Groundbreaking, innovative, daring and original, this indie gem from the heartland is a shot across the bow of the big studios and their big, sterile, generic film-making. This movie grabs convention by the throat, throws it against the brick wall of complacency and then pummels it with the crowbar of audacious creativity. All of this takes place in the alleyway of artistic license next to the dumpster of rotting Hollywood cynicism. From the startling use of the recurring visual image of the porta-potty to the incredibly heart felt performances, every instant of this movie is clearly a labor of love committed to fresh and daring thinking. Beyond a shadow of a doubt I can objectively state that this is the best movie I have ever been in.

Low Budget Thriller

Have you have ever seen a Student fim that sucked?? Well this one is like a student film that didn't suck. Just a step above...

The characters are great and the story is a little slow but at the end you will definitely have a few chuckles.

For their first movie it definitely didn't suck. There is always room for improvement and these guys already know that.

But it's obvious they had a blast making this.
