Although this is a mockumentary with lots of laughs it also has plenty of 'real' information detailing the lengths couples will go to in order to rekindle the flames of passion. In fact, much of the film will fool viewers into thinking it's REALITY TV even while tickling your ribcage with the situations presented.
'Joe St. John' (Hans Hoffman) may be too controlling in the bedroom? Basic plot line involves a documentary style set-up with Joseph & Mary St. John giving first-person appraisals of their current sex lives and the need for improvement. You know things are bad when you've been married seven years and can't remember the last time you had sex with your spouse, so the brave couple decides to explore all areas of healing for better or worse (mostly worse).
Funniest episodes occur with a psychiatrist who has a hide-a-bed in his office and likes to heal by 'replacement' therapy where he subs for one of the partners in the relationship (to hilarious effect). Reactions, ranging from confusion to extreme discomfort, by first-time film actors Hans Hoffman ('Joe') and Heather Smith ('Mary') are dead-on perfect throughout the film, and their likability as a couple allows the audience to root for them while sharing their frustrations.
A too-much-information 'tantric sex' class recalls how ridiculous the 'lambada' movies of old were while also showing that being 'coached' during sex, even with the correct instruction, is more fear-inducing than erotic. Actress Donna Klimek ('Gehan') steals the show as a 'hands on' bi-sexual practitioner who barely conceals her lesbian attraction to Mary.
All of the actors involved in the film are part of an improv group and their ability to play off each others reactions adds much to the hilarity. Hand-held camera work is also expertly done and catches everything the actors offer up as if it had been rehearsed to perfection.
If you need a winter giggle, check this one out when it comes your way
