Prison films and series tend to pick one of the following themes: Action flicks with plenty of fighting, starring the likes of a Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme or Scott Adkins. Usually, it’s a good guy fighting for survival against overwhelming odds. Next would be the slew of sexploitation women-in-chains sort, using the premise as an excuse for nudity and other aspects of lurid appeal. Most were B movies that thrived in the 1970s –‘80s. The “Orange is the New Black” series classed that genre up considerably without losing its titillation value. Then there were high-quality character dramas like Shawshank Redemption, Cool Hand Luke and The Rock. Finally come comedies like The Longest Yard.

Chicago – Arguably, the last great movie star was Burt Reynolds. His everyman attraction, his accessibility and of course his box office made Reynolds a compelling force during his peak in the 1970s. The CW Network will show the doc “I Am Burt Reynolds” on December 30th, 2023, directed by Adrian Buitenhuis.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
With a career in Hollywood dating back to the last days of the studio system, 1950s/60s TV westerns, and hanging with the Rat Pack, Burt Reynolds epitomized Hollywood superstardom while never ceasing to be a Florida “good ole boy.” From his beginnings in TV and low budget films, through to his breakout roles in “Deliverance,” and “The Longest Yard, onto the smash hit “Smokey and the Bandit” and box office dominance, “I Am Burt Reynolds” remembers an era and the man who defined it.

The Mean Machine is getting back on the field… again. Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures are developing another remake of The Longest Yard.
The 1974 original was a prison sports comedy starring Burt Reynolds as Paul “Wrecking” Crewe, a former NFL star who is sentenced to 18 months in Citrus State Prison, where he recruits a group of prisoners to play football against the guards. The film included a number of real-life football stars, including Ray Nitschke of the Green Bay Packers. The 2005 remake amped up the comedy and starred Adam Sandler in the role of the wash-up quarterback, who agrees to assemble a prison team in exchange for a reduced sentence. Burt Reynolds appeared in the remake as the team’s coach.

Exclusive: The Longest Yard is getting another set of downs.
Deadline hears that another remake of the film, which originally starred Burt Reynolds in 1974 and was remade starring Adam Sandler in 2005, is in the works at Paramount Pictures. Rodney Barnes, who was an exec producer and writer on HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, is writing.
It comes from Gunpowder & Sky, whose CEO Van Toffler was an exec producer on the 2005 version when he worked at then-MTV owner Viacom. Toffler is producing with former MTV Films boss David Gale, who reunited with Toffler at Gunpowder & Sky and who also exec produced the Sandler version.

The episode of The Black Sheep covering The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When did the Texas Chainsaw movies get so muddled with so many timelines? It’s not a hard thing to do. People get lost in Texas and end up victims of Leatherface and his family. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a story line or a variation on things from time to time, hell, that’s what made Freddy, Michael, and Jason so popular. You could have even done something like the legacy sequel for Halloween, at least the first one. Oh wait, you did, and it didn’t turn out well with characters that made terrible decisions and weren’t likeable in the first place? Oh yeah, I remember that one.

For a movie that's mostly about how friendships are forever, the 2010 Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups" may have had fans wondering about a conspicuously missing face from the sequel. For much of Sandler's career on the big screen, he's been joined by longtime friend and collaborator Rob Schneider. Starting with 1998's "The Waterboy," the two actors have appeared in well over a dozen movies together, from the likes of "Mr. Deeds" and "The Longest Yard" to even an animated movie like "Eight Crazy Nights." Contrary to recent rumors, the bond still seems to be going strong as the two ended up joining forces again in 2017's "Sandy Wexler" and once more in "Hubie Halloween" three years ago. But that hasn't stopped fans from wondering why, after such a prominent role in "Grown Ups," Schneider didn't return for another go-around in "Grown Ups 2."

In the star-studded animated film Leo, Adam Sandler plays a 74-year-old lizard. Being imprisoned in a routine is exhausting, especially when you’re a lizard locked inside the bounds of a small terrarium.
Viewers will glimpse the title character’s glass box in Netflix’s forthcoming animated film Leo. But Leo is eager to discover more for himself, keen to make the most of the time he has left on earth. Netflix released the official trailer before the film’s November 21 launch.

Actor Tracy Morgan, best known for his films such as ‘Cop Out’, ‘The Longest Yard’ as well as for his role in the series ’30 Rock’, has said that he’s been taking the Ozempic pharmaceutical drug for his weight loss. According to People magazine, the actor-comedian during an appearance on Monday’s episode of ‘Today with Hoda & Jenna’, was explaining how he goes to the gym every day at 10 a.m. when hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager complimented how good he looks.
He continued: “You’ve been working on your body and your health,” Kotb, 59, said before Morgan quickly responded: “No, that’s Ozempic. That’s how all this weight got lost,” he said. “I went and got a prescription and I got Ozempic. And I ain’t letting it go!” Morgan quipped as Kotb and Bush Hager, 41, laughed.

"A Royale with Cheese." Who wants one? Or two? McDonald's is going all out with a new promotion. Even though we usually despise any shameless marketing, especially when it's for extremely unhealthy fast food, this is is just too good to ignore. McDonald's has debuted a 60-second trailer along with their poster for a new "As Featured In Meal" deal. So what are they offering? "A collection of fan-favorite menu items that have made iconic appearances throughout film, television and music." Huh, okay. The trailer features some of the most iconic appearances - including The Fifth Element, Reality Bites, "The Office", Fallen Angels, The Longest Yard, and of course the "Royale with Cheese" in From Paris with Love. I have to give them props for fully embracing the hilariousness of finding every single McDonald's reference in any film from any country, including ones that kind of make them look bad,...

The Emmys have been here before. In 1980, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists went on strike for three months. That year’s Emmy telecast happened to fall right in the middle of it.
Actors boycotted the ceremony, but for some reason, the TV Academy went ahead with the Emmy telecast anyway. Famously, only one out of 52 nominees attended: Powers Boothe, who said when accepting his trophy for playing cult leader Jim Jones: “This is either the most courageous moment of my career or the stupidest.”
Steve Allen and Dick Clark (both of whom donated their hosting fees to the SAG emergency fund) hosted that year’s ceremony after original hosts Michael Landon, Bob Newhart and Lee Remick bowed out due to the strike. Variety called that year’s show a “lackluster affair,” and noted that the TV Academy aimed to fill the...

In addition to an enormously successful career as a stand-up comedian and a stint as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live," Chris Rock has starred in several acclaimed feature films. While much of Rock's cinematic work revolves around the signature humor he's known for in his stand-up, he has branched out to different genres, including crime thrillers and horror. Immensely magnetic, Rock commands full attention whenever he's on screen, elevating the projects he appears in, even on the occasions when he takes a supporting role.

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.
Nb: We put this list together with help from What’s on Netflix.

The first version will begin streaming on April 28. In the show, the world is in the grips of Manticore, a criminal organization, and several former spies are recruited to restore order despite having their memories erased.
Watch the trailer for “Citadel”:
Beloved young adult author Judy Blume opened the door to discussion about difficult subjects for generations of kids. Now, the writer is the subject of a new documentary, “Judy Blume Forever,” coming to Prime Video on April 21. The doc looks at her trajectory — from a scared kid to...

Super Bowl Lvii has the Kansas City Chiefs with quarterback Patrick Mahomes vs. the Philadelphia Eagles and Qb Jalen Hurts.
There are all kinds of football-based films out there to enjoy — from dramas to comedies, and even an award-winning documentary — and we’ve collected 12 of the best here in our photo gallery, ranked from worst to best.
In paring down the list, we had to answer the question: “Just what is a football movie?” We didn’t include “The Blind Side,” for example, because though its central character plays football, the film is primarily about many other things. And while Act 3 of Robert Altman‘s “M*A*S*H” is made up of what is arguably the funniest football game ever put to film, its main concerns are elsewhere.

Gunsmoke actor Burt Reynolds had a wonderful career that extended into becoming a sex symbol. He knew that he wanted a career in entertainment, but he initially had some difficulties figuring out exactly what kind of roles he would play. Reynolds initially tried to pursue a path similar to Clint Eastwood’s Western path, although it didn’t initially work out as planned.

Before Gunsmoke came along, Reynolds originally started working in theater. From there, he took on television roles on shows such as The Lawless Years and Pony Express. However, Reynolds had his first big part in Riverboat as Ben Frazer alongside Darren McGavin until he left due to creative differences with the show’s star.
Reynolds remained a guest-starring actor on television while making his film debut with 1961’s Angel Baby.

Suppose they took a hit movie to VOD after only two weekends at the box office, and it didn’t matter? That seems to be the case with when Universal’s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (19.99), which is available exactly 17 days after its theatrical opening. The Dreamworks animated sequel is currently #1 on all three charts we follow.
In its first post-holiday weekend “Puss in Boots” was #3 in theaters, grossing over 13 million and falling only 19 percent. This follows the identical path Universal chose for “Sing 2” a year ago. That title soared throughout 2022 in home play, most recently placing in Netflix’s top 10 for a record six months.
The immediate rise of “Puss in Boots” to #1 displaced “Knives Out” (Lionsgate/3.99). The 2019 title that kicked off Rian Johnson’s franchise took the dominant position on VOD charts last week in the wake of Netflix debuting “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

One of the most oddly fascinating chapters of a movie star's career is Harrison Ford's awkward three-year run in between "Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope" and "Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back."
After a rough 10 years that saw him kicked out of Columbia Pictures' New Talent Program, and relegated to smallish roles in films like George Lucas' "American Graffiti" and Francis Ford Coppola's "The Conversation," Ford finally broke through as the dashing rogue Han Solo in Lucas' blockbuster space opera. With the entire country mad for anything even tangentially related to "Star Wars," it seemed like all of the actors were primed for superstardom. This was especially true of Ford, whose banter with Carrie Fisher's unflappable Princess Leia drew the film's biggest laughs.

Adam Sandler treated a delighted Gotham Awards audience Monday night with a rollicking stand-up session, thanking the org for a Performers Tribute after a long career with two guiding principles, “that people in prison need movies too, and TBS needs content to show between all those basketball games.”
He claimed the speech was written by his two teenage daughters, who were upset he hadn’t prepared one. He said he promised them he would, and he did by delivering it in a goofy Southern accent. “Thank you for givin’ our daddy, Mr. Adam Sandler, this prestigious lifetime, all-time prime time achievement tribute award. After a lengthy journey that involved pacifying mercurial businessmen and mob bosses, navigating tricky politics and permits, and working hard to get Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) all the talent he needed past the studio, Al Ruddy (Miles Teller) and the team finally completed and released “The Godfather” in the season finale of “The Offer.”
(Spoiler alert: This article contains details from the season finale of “The Offer.”)
The final episode of the Paramount+ limited series offered some closure all around as the film premiered to critical acclaim, went on to win several of the big Oscars, including Best Picture, and set up the journey for the sequel. But the final episode also captured some sad partings, like when Bob Evans (Matthew Goode) saw his marriage to Ali McGraw (Meredith Garretson) conclude, Bettye McCartt (Juno Temple) left Al’s employ to start her own agency, and Al parted ways with...

Adam Sandler, LeBron James and Queen Latifah were met with deafening cheers from hundreds of fans who lined the streets around Westwood’s Regency Village Theatre at the “Hustle” world premiere on Wednesday night.
James produced the Jeremiah Zagar-directed Netflix sports drama which stars Sandler as Stanley “Sugarman” Beren, a washed-up basketball scout who sees a chance for a career comeback when he discovers a phenomenally talented street ball player in Spain.
Spanish professional basketball player and Utah Jazz power forward Juancho Hernangomez made his acting debut in the film, taking on the role of Beren’s protégée, Bo Cruz. The cast also featured numerous past and current NBA stars including Kenny Smith, Trae Young, Kyle Lowry, Anthony Edwards and Seth Curry, among others.
A basketball superfan, Sandler had previously teamed up with NBA legend Kevin Garnett in the 2019 crime thriller “Uncut Gems.” When asked if “Hustle” was just...

Exclusive: The Corleone family finally has come together for a real Italian dinner. In this clip from the May 12 episode of The Offer on Paramount+, Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) greets the cast of The Godfather for their first gathering before shooting commences on the film.
Much to Coppola’s delight, the actors immediately settle into their roles. Marlon Brando (Justin Chambers) sits at the head of the table and insists that his wife be served first. He then gives a speech thanking the group for attending his birthday meal.
The Offer is based on producer Albert S. Ruddy’s experience making the 1972 film that Coppola directed and adapted with Mario Puzo from Puzo’s bestselling novel. Besides Chambers and Fogler, The Offer stars Miles Teller as Al Ruddy, Matthew Goode as Robert Evans, Juno Temple as Bettye McCartt, Giovanni Ribisi as Joe Colombo, Burn Gorman as Charles Bluhdorn, Colin Hanks...

Among the 100 top-grossing domestic movie releases, there have been three occasions when two of those films opened on the same weekend.
“Dr. Zhivago” and “Thunderball” shared Christmas 1965; “The Exorcist” and “The Sting” were Christmas 1973. And on Memorial Day Weekend 1977 there was “Smokey and the Bandit”… and “Star Wars.”
George Lucas’ film, of course, is second only to “Gone With the Wind” in tickets sold. But “Smokey” is #79 all-time, grossing $520 million (all figures here adjusted to 2022 values).
And for that first weekend, “Smokey” was actually #1. All-time, it’s a bigger hit than any “Harry Potter” film, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “West Side Story,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” all the “Hunger Games” films, and “Rocky.”
In May 1977, I was in my second year as a film buyer for a local Chicago exhibition chain. At that point, wide releases were not the rule and while Memorial Day was a desirable date, it wasn’t considered summer.

Michael Tolkin is the creator behind "The Offer." The show about the making of a Hollywood classic is from a screenwriter who's worked on classics himself, such as "The Player" and Bill Duke's "Deep Cover." Most recently, he co-created another show about process, the Ben Stiller-directed prison drama "Escape at Dannemora." With Paramount+'s new miniseries about "The Godfather" production, Tolkin had 10 hours to tell the story of the making of the movie from producer Al Ruddy's ("The Longest Yard") point of view.
Tolkin faced a variety of challenges making "The Offer," starting with Covid. Recently, the show's creator told us about...

After subtly but unmistakably transforming himself into legendary Hollywood producer Al Ruddy for The Offer, chronicling the myriad and fraught battles to make the revered classic film The Godfather, Miles Teller says he and real-world role will be “connected forever.”
Appearing onstage at Deadline’s Contenders TV event with the Paramount+ series’ executive producer/showrunner Nikki Toscano and co-star Giovani Ribisi, Teller explained how his in-person meetings with Ruddy — long celebrated for his seemingly unflappable confidence and persuasive deal-making abilities — added that much more nuance to his performance.
“I met with Al at his house before I had officially [joined the cast]. I mean, I knew I was going to do the project, but I hadn’t officially signed on,” recalled Teller, who like Ruddy also serves as an executive producer on the series. “Al, the producer that is, he wanted to make sure that he got some face time with me because...
