M vs Moneypenny
Next year's race for the actress Oscars is already taking tasty shape after Cannes. It should be a battle of the Princesses as we see Cannes juror Nicole Kidman in Grace of Monaco go toe-to-toe with Naomi Watts in a film now, finally and officially, named Diana. But there could be another twist as two Bond girls enter the fray. Dame Judi Dench, who was M in the Bond movies, must be a cert for Philomena, the British road movie written by and co-starring Steve Coogan, for which Harvey Weinstein parted with $6m after seeing just a seven-minute showreel at Cannes, clearly scenting a movie that will swell his Oscar cabinet. But Weinstein has also swooped on Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and is, I hear, preparing...

Eon Productions is a British company that has been involved with almost every James Bond film since 1962.s Dr. No, and it.s rarely strayed from its 007 roots. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are teaming with WestEnd and Neon Film to shop the romantic drama The Silent Storm around the Cannes Film Festival. Set to star in the film are Andrea Riseborough, who recently went sci-fi with Tom Cruise in Oblivion, and Damian Lewis, who is a major reason why Homeland is one of the best shows on television right now. Walter is in trouble. He killed the wrong man, and then had to kill the right man, and now his boss is mad at him for creating a mess, and so Walter is sidelined for the moment. His friend Francois suggests that Walter fill in for him on a job that will take him away to a mountain retreat, where he can enjoy the peace and quiet and build snowmen, one week tops, good money. But things are never quite that easy for professional assassins. Snowman's Land features oddball characters and an unusual narrative trajectory, coupled with a great sense of visual style.
