PARIS -- French television producer and anchor Emmanuel Chain will leave pay TV channel Canal Plus to present a weekly news program on free-to-air channel M6, the companies announced on Tuesday. Chain, one of France's best-known journalists and newscasters, has been producing and presenting Merci pour l'Info (Thank you for the Info) on the Canal Plus premium channel through his production company Elephant since September 2003. Broadcast live and free-to-air on weekday evenings on the otherwise encrypted channel, the program features four personalities who discuss three topics on a range of subjects from politics and social issues to sports and culture. Canal Plus confirmed that Merci would be pulled off the air after June, when Chain leaves the group. Chain will join M6 in September, when French channels traditionally announce their new slates for the coming year.
