Hope Larson has released her first short film, Bitter Orange.
Brie Larson (Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World) and James Urbaniak (Venture Brothers) star in the new project from the cartoonist.
The film stars Brie as a driven career girl struggling with sexism in 1920s prohibition-era America. It was shot over two weeks in June 2012.
"I came up with the idea for Bitter Orange over, I think, Thanksgiving 2011," Larson told Badass Digest.
"I'd just finished A Wrinkle in Time and was officially between projects, and I was trying to get a foot in as a screenwriter. I figured the best way to do that would be to direct something, since it's much easier to make someone watch a short than read a screenplay. And I'd been wanting to try directing, although I had no idea if I was cut out for it, or if I'd enjoy it.

We're used to seeing John Slattery as a sad lovesick fool, but this time his powerful muse if one of presidential proportions. The National have released the music video to "Conversation 16," culled from their 2010 album "High Violet"; the group even has a place in the clip, but much of the focus is on "President of the U.S." Kristen Schaal, Slattery on security detail and "Russian" leader James Urbaniak. What surfaces are misty water-colored memories of Ms. President and Slattery's love affair, a executive branch thong, love letters with wax and staples and a nearly missed pardon for a Thanksgiving...

Holidays never come without a few grievances, and Nina Dobrev, Mindy Kaling and Ice-t all sounded off with frustrations today, from Christmas music being played too early to NPR stories about traffic and notions of what Thanksgiving is or isn't about in general.
Edgar Wright, meanwhile, shared a quick memorial note about about the passing of actress Ingrid Pitt, who you may know from her work in "The Vampire Lovers," "Doctor Who" or the original "Wicker Man." His thoughts, as well as Felicia Day's reaction to Azeroth getting blitzed in "World of Warcraft" and Patton Oswalt's gut reaction to "Burlesque" await you below.
