Few bands are less 'rock and roll' than Duluth, Minnesota's Low, the primary exponents of a unique style of melodic and sloooooooow 'alternarock' music that can also, at times, be devastatingly powerful. This low-key documentary follows the band as they criss-cross Europe, with stops across the continent and at Islington's legendary Union Chapel, as well as a fleeting encounter with grindcore pioneers Napalm Death. The film features a lot of interview footage and not as much music as one might wish for, but it's a well-rounded look at this fascinating band of Mormon rockers. Call it slowcore, snorecore, or whatever...Low's music is evocative stuff, and Low In Europe serves as a very nice introduction to this unusual trio, who have managed to take the dissonance of Sonic Youth and the repetitive power of Swans and turn it into something quite beautiful.
