"Die Farben der Liebe", which means "The Colors of Love", is a German television movie from 2004. Like most other small screen releases here from my country, it runs for 1.5 hours. The director is Zoltan Spirandelli and he is enjoying a prolific career with some okay inclusions quality-wise and some bad projects too. For writers Maximilian and Pauli, almost only the latter is true. One of them is also not experienced at all and the other proves that quantity does not equal quality. I always find it especially worrying when there's two writers and the outcome is still such a big mess because it does only prove they aren't good writers, but they aren't even good reviewers because they don't see the mistakes by the other. The imdb page here is as messy as the film itself, so I would not be too surprised if any of the two writers set it up. First of all, the poster belongs to another movie. And Isabella Grothe is not in this film either the way it says in the cast list here. Instead, there is a young actress with a similar (not even the same) name part of this film on some occasions. The actress linked here is considerably older. As for the rest of the cast, you get the names of several actors who have a tendency to appear in schmaltzy unrealistic films like this one. The best example is lead actress Weitzenböck and the only unexpected aspect about her is where she was born. She looks attractive, but has no versatility at all. Same is true to a lesser degree for co-lead Heio von Stetten. Sergej Moya is in it too, but really only plays a very small part. Pretty sad that these films are waht Fendel had to agree towards the end of her career (and life). Czyppionka plays theater here in Berlin for a while and certainly looks way different now than he did in this film back then over 15 years ago. What a difference a beard makes.

Okay, I will name a few scenes and moments when the film hit rock-bottom. First of all, it did not feel realistic one bit in terms of how unlikely events happen all the time. The best example is already the meeting between the two protagonists early on. Enough coincidence for 90 minutes honestly, maybe even for 180 with their background (and attraction). And still they wanted us to believe these two keep bumping into each other randomly on more occasions than this. The very worst thing the film has to offer (and that means quite something with all the bad there is) was probably everything linked to marriage. Yeah, now it is a subject of course (for tax reasons..), now that she met another guy, and of course her boyfriend kisses another woman (drunk, but still, who seems to understand him much better than his partner) and still he proposes to her. And don't even get me started on the doorbell ringing and it is HvS of course that very moment. Or the stupid scene in the water when he jumps in and she jumps right after him. Or the playful joke about posing nude. Or all the pseudo drama linked to the main character being a forger. They really ran out of ideas there oh boy. But still, we should not forget he is a good guy, so quickly they had him confess everything to his buyer, who of course, was the man of the woman he wants. Or the boy who hears the conversation between the forger and the real criminal. I mean his money struggles justify it all okay? By the way, director Spirindelli also acts himself in here, but only plays a really small part. One of his rare performance in front of the camera. Also in this film is his son, first performance ever, and luckily he did not pursue a career in acting. Without his dad's career, he never would have been in a film. That much is safe. The story between him and and the girl he is interested in was a really weak subplot that culminated negatively in the scene when we have that music, well "music", performance. How can a father do that to his son and expose him like that? A few more words on the music and I am not talking about the score. That one was alright. Or at least, it did not stand out as much in a negative sense as almost everything else about this film. The songs I mean. Some of them okay, but they all felt forced and shoved into the audience's faces, like mist of all the famous "Kiss Me" at the very end when there is the big revelation that the two get together. Surprise, surprise. Of course, on the road to these two becoming an item, there is a lot of pseudo drama too, stuff à la "I never want to see him again for what he did" on half a dozen occasions, while of course she is never an antagonist despite of what she does although she is not single. The audience should even believe it is okay she went to bed with him because it is true love etc. and who cares that she is not single. It is definitely a very manipulative movie and for the easily entertained. Then again, I can see why it perhaps received good ratings because there is really many of those. Thumbs-up for you if you watch through this charade and decide to either not check it out or see it for what it is. 1.5 hours of unrealistic garbage without any talent whatsoever. Not recommended.
