Interesting Platformer, Shooter, Puzzler, Adventure (PS2)

Being a fan of the movie released the same year, I expected this to be a lackluster play-though of the film. I was pleasantly surprised to find this unique set of sequences that runs parallel to the story. In other words, the overall story arc and cut-scenes are taken from the movie, but the playable chapters are different challenges entirely. Plenty of creative elements have the player guessing on how to complete the tasks, involving one or a combination of all three of the children. As a puzzler and adventurer, the game excels. As a Platformer, a different kind of genre, but similar controls to other games. The Shooter scenes are my least favourite, as the Playstation 2 controller isn't exactly a model fit for this game type.

Two improvements would've made the game ideal: 1.) Better controls, as many jumps/shots, and other actions seem not to respond as well as they could and 2.) Saves within the chapter. Very frustrating to be almost done, then getting a cheap-shot that sends you back to the beginning. Despite the stress, goals are achievable and found the game rewarding. The kind of gothic steampunk aura with a few lessons about humanity are well worthwhile.

a comment or rather a compliment from my mom

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" is rather enjoyable. I watched this movie with my young daughter even though she has already watched it 3 times with her friends, but i gave it a chance because she would never stop bugging me, but I ended up enjoying it as much as she did. It is a fun adventure that has a few scares scattered about and plenty of comedy for young and old alike.

Since I haven't read the books, I can only base this review on what I witness on the screen. Violet and Klaus are wonderful children in this film besides their very unfortunate situation. They are intelligent, not too mischievous, and they have a deep love for each other especially for their little sister, Sunny. Sunny is adorable. She is probably one of the best parts of this film. but my daughter had argued with me and said of how Klaus was the best part of the film.

The rest of the cast does a fine job. Jim Carrey transforms into three despicable characters in this flick: Count Olaf, Captain Sham and Stephano, the scientific assistant. He is quite devilish and pulls off all three characters with unlikely perfection. Billy Connolly and Meryl Streep are fine as guardians of the young children. Connolly stands out from the pack, as the caring and well-meaning herpetologist uncle of the family. Cedric the Entertainer and Dustin Hoffman have brief roles here, and the gentleman who plays Mr. Poe is great although i find his character a little bit annoying.

As far as set design and special effects, they are wonderful. There are elements of Tim Burton's films and the Harry Potter movies in the "atmosphere" of the sets. But this is definitely a better film for children than harry potter. the set was just horrifically stunning. They are dark, gloomy, and sometimes a little scary for the youngsters.

The music sets the tone in a neat and suspenseful manner.

Overall, a fine family film, though very small children may be frightened. Also, I recall only one curse word in the film(I could be wrong), but nothing to bad. It's a safe bet that if your children can handle Harry Potter, they can handle the scares in this.

i saw this movie while it was in theaters and i was pretty impressed with it. the makeup was amazing and the plot was very interesting. The plot of the move is about 3 orphans who are forced to live with there evil uncle named Count Olaf. Count Olaf is trying to steel the orphans enormous fortune and will almost do anything to get it. After they escape from there uncle they move to two other places. This movie is based on the first 3 books. There are some many funny lines in this movie which i was quite surprised to see . If i were to rate this movie i would give it 8 out of 10 stars Even though it may not have been as great as the books it was still amazing defiantly suggest this movie to both kids and adults

Maryl Streep

I have seen this movie a hundred times and i also seen other movie with Maryl Streep so I could recognize her and you people have it written down that Aunt Josophine was played by someone other then her and this is wrong. If I am incorrect in the accusation and you can prove it then please do so, you have my e-mail address feel free to use it. I really like Maryl Streep and I'm upset that you people have gotten this wrong and now I'm just going to ramble on for the next couple lines because someone made up a stupid rule that it has to be ten lines long so i'll just say how much i liked the movie especially Maryl Streep's part and I'll also say that Jim Carrey is excellent and I like him a lot there is that enough for you people?
