When I saw the advertisement on TV for this documentary I thought that it sounded interesting. I hadn't heard anything about a so-called genius sperm bank or someone named Robert Graham.
The show starts off in a playfully interesting way (with two gentlemen in a motel room) and with sufficient other hooks to keep you watching. It isn't shot as a dry and information laden program, but rather, it's done in a humorous fashion with scenes that could easily be found in a mockumentary (mock documentary).
With each commercial break the show returned with more interesting facts and more funny people with unusual stories. After about 30 minutes I was starting to think that this was in fact a mockumentary. Its light hearted approach to the subject gave me the impression that this was light entertainment with tongue firmly in cheek about a semi-plausible drummed-up topic. It wasn't until later when I googled genius sperm bank that I found enough information to show that this is a factual documentary.
I enjoyed this documentary. Probably more so for the way in which it was shot than the information presented. In some ways it reminds me of Woody Allen's early movie, Take The Money And Run, which was one of the earliest ever mockumentaries. If you want to learn something and have a laugh at the same time give this a go. Recommended.
