Creaky French silent devotional piece.
Mozjoukine14 December 2011
This little circulated French silent has lip rouged Mathot playing an author whose book disposes of Bilblical stories as myths. While researching in Jerusalem, the shock of meeting a lookalike for his dead fiancée gives him Biblical bad dreams, offering him and celebrity players of the day a chance to come on as Old Testament characters, flanked by naked women. Well it worked for De Mille.

A few of the cast, like Gabriel Signoret, occasionally register. Napierkowska in her scanties works hard on Salome.

Shots of Notre Dame, cross cut with the Mosque of Omar, pass for thought content. Some then state of the art special effects.

Survives as an archival 35mm. copy.
