Controversy over the promotion of ear seeds and acupuncture as a recovery aid for Me on Dragons’ Den has led the BBC to edit the program and add a clarification.
The episode of the 20-year-old business format was removed from BBC iPlayer earlier this week following a backlash to Giselle Boxer’s Acu Seeds business pitch, which received £50,000 investment in exchange for a 10% investment in the company.
Now, the BBC has said the show has been returned to iPlayer but “edited since broadcast to clarify aspects of the Acu Seeds pitch.”
A note on iPlayer says “advice should always be sought from a qualified healthcare provider about any health concerns.”
Having received complaints about the pitch, the BBC clarified that the ear seeds were “never described as a cure for Me” and said “Dragons’ Den does not, and has never, set out to offer medical advice, and we believe its audience understands this.

The BBC has pulled an episode of Dragons’ Den after a backlash due to a claim from a contestant that acupuncture and ear seeds helped her recover from Me.
Letters have now been sent to politicians and to the BBC over the claim, and others, which could force the long-running business format into a period of reckoning.
In the episode, which aired last Thursday, contestant Giselle Boxer said “diet, acupuncture, Chinese herbs and ear seeds” helped with her recovery from the condition, and led her to turn the idea into the brand Acu Seeds. She received £50,000 in exchange for a 10% investment in the company. The Daily Mirror quoted Boxer as saying the BBC had approached her to take part in the show.

The sharks themselves are the face of Shark Tank, defining the show’s image. The singing competition series, in which celebrities compete anonymously behind giant anthropomorphic costumes, returned on New Year’s Day, with the first group of contestants all performing.
Among the group was Phoenix, who was shown in their Vt standing within a grand castle and explaining in a posh accent that “I am rather hot, aren’t I?”
“Fire” by Kasabian then played as Phoenix said that they had risen from the ashes and been “born anew” and “reincarnated”.
They also said that they were good with “mysteries” and “following a trail”, while Phoenix was shown inspecting foot prints with a magnifying glass.

Warning: contains spoilers for Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 (and – curveball – The Shield pilot).
The act of compiling a list of moments such as these – trawling through memories, devouring fan-sites, gorging on clips – really hammers home the joy of being a Game of Thrones fan. Whatever you thought of the latter seasons, or how the show ended, it’s impossible to recall certain moments from the fierce and frantic, frenetic, kinetic, splenetic, sprawling, sword-and-sorrow-soaked timeline without some part of you screaming: ‘Again! The selection criteria here isn’t random, but neither is it scientific. The final results and rankings lay no claim to definitiveness. How could they? Whittling this list down to a mere 100 moments would’ve been tough. This is where you come in. The latest edition of Nippon TV’s popular drama series “The Files of Young Kindaichi,” starring Shunsuke Michieda from “Naniwa Danshi,” will begin broadcasting on Nippon TV from next month. Thereafter it will be made available on Disney Plus for Japanese and worldwide audiences.
Though the companies have previously worked together, this show will be the first time that Nippon TV content will become available to viewers globally on Disney’s direct-to-consumer platform.
“The Files of Young Kindaichi” is based on an original manga boasting over 100 million copies in circulation in 12 countries.

Nippon TV has licensed the scripted format rights to its hit drama series “I’m Mita, Your Housekeeper” for remake by Turkey’s Medyapim and Mf Yapim. The deal was announced on Monday, just days before the start of Tiffcom, the rights market adjunct to the Tokyo International Film Festival.
The show follows the exploits of a super housekeeper who perfectly completes everything she is asked to do. She works without emotion and never deviates from the task, but often comes up with unusual solutions. A ratings winner, the show has won numerous prizes including the Tokyo Drama Awards Grand Prix.
Tiffcom is this year moving entirely online as a move that reflects the difficulties of in-person meetings at the time when the coronavirus is still rampant in many parts of the world. But like the market, and housekeeper Mita, Nippon TV is showing its ability to cope with the industry’s systemic change.

When the coronavirus pandemic shut down production in Los Angeles in March, the producers of Shark Tank started to look for other options. They ultimately picked up and left the city, filming their 12th season at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. The result was probably the show’s best season ever, according to showrunner/exec producer Clay Newbill.
Created by Mark Burnett based on the international format Dragons’ Den, the ABC reality series follows entrepreneurs as they make business presentations to a panel of elite investors, or “sharks” — including billionaire Mark Cuban and branding expert Daymond John — who decide whether they’d like to invest in their company or product. At its core, the show is about being disruptive and thinking outside the box. And this year, John commented to Newbill, ”the show that’s about innovation had to get innovative.”

Sony Pictures Television is the latest company to roll out a bespoke virtual event in October.
Spt, which pulled out of Cannes TV market Mipcom in July, is set to debut a month-long showcase of its latest format offerings, beginning Oct. 1. The studio’s Virtual October Formats Fest follows ITV Studios, which unveiled plans for a fall TV festival in late July.
With its formats offering, Sony is building on an existing virtual footprint. The studio was the first to go digital for May’s LA Screenings, which was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This new event will effectively replicate the virtual LA Screenings portal, which paid off for Sony, allowing them to connect with more than 1,500 clients around the world. The October showcase will similarly rely on Zoom and eCinema for personalized pitches and presentations of new formats.

Exclusive: Another legacy broadcast reality series, ABC’s Shark Tank, is heading back to production after a coronavirus-related shutdown.
The popular family-friendly unscripted show, which traditionally shoots on the Sony lot in Culver City, will film its upcoming 12th season in Las Vegas, I have learned. I hear the show, already in pre-production at an undisclosed location in Sin City, is employing a quarantine bubble, keeping the stars and crew within a single facility with Covid-19 safety protocols, including testing, in place. I hear a large portion of Shark Tank‘s LA-based crew members have made the trip to Las Vegas to work on the new episodes, set to begin shooting soon.

If you’ve never watched the show Shark Tank on ABC (with reruns on CNBC), it is the brainchild of Dallas Mavericks owner (and Broadcast.com creator) Mark Cuban. He took the idea from a Japanese show called Dragons’ Den and brought the franchise to the United States. The premise of the show is that five “sharks” — potential investors in small businesses — hear pitches from entrepreneurs who are looking to take their successful small business to the next level. The cast varies, but it almost always includes Cuban and “Mr. Wonderful” (Kevin O’Leary). Other common cast members include Lori Greiner,

Former Dragons' Den star Kelly Hoppen has revealed she will be starring in the upcoming Absolutely Fabulous movie.
The interior designer made the admission to Digital Spy at the Pride of Britain Awards in London last night (September 28).
"It's happening," Hoppen said of her role in the highly-anticipated movie. "But my lips are zipped for a while. So you'll have to wait and see!"
It's not known what role Hoppen will take on, but she was mentioned in the 2004 special when Jennifer Saunders's Edina Monsoon admits that Bettina - her much-mentioned fellow interior designer friend - had been admitted to Broadmoor Hospital for "stabbing Kelly Hoppen with a glass shard at the Design Awards".
Joanna Lumley, who will reprise her role as the beehive-sporting, chain-smoking Patsy Stone, ended months of speculation earlier this year by revealing that the script for the film is done and production will kick off in October.

Joanna Lumley, who will reprise her role as the beehive-sporting, chain-smoking Patsy Stone, ended months of speculation earlier this year by revealing that the script for the film is done and production will kick off in October.
The interior designer made the admission to Digital Spy at the Pride of Britain Awards in London last night (September 28).

A former star of Dragons' Den has been charged with child sex offences.
Doug Richard appeared as a Dragon in the first two series of the BBC programme, and was an adviser to David Cameron until three years ago.
He has been accused of three counts of sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl, and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
The American-born businessman currently lives in Cambridge, and will appear at City of London Magistrates' Court on October 5.
The 56-year-old - who is married with three children - has strongly denied the claims.
He said in a statement: "I absolutely deny the allegations made about me. It would be inappropriate to comment further given that the police are at a very early stage of their investigation."
