good music from a remote place
dromasca4 July 2008
Madagascar is very little known excepting for nature films, so I watched this film with a lot of interest, curious to learn and hear more about the landscape, people and of course music of a country that is remote and out of the cultural and news circuit. It was refreshing to see a well made film about a vibrant society and too hear exceptional music. 'Mahaleo' is a band that celebrated 30 years and was part of the troubled history of the country in this period. We learn more about its members, some of them had became physicians or even politicians, but they seem to be well known and popular in Madagascar. This was a good opportunity to learn more about them, about the music and culture of their country and first of all to hear a lot of good music, in tune with modern folk, blues and mainstream world over. A very good mention for the excellent translation in French of the words of the songs, they were so good that I had the feeling that I am reading words of songs from Dylan.
