Who didn’t have a slot car racing set growing up?! My brothers and I would spend hours building, rebuilding, and combining our sets. I don’t know how much “racing” we did, but we definitely did a lot of crashing and breaking. GeekAlerts recently posted two great sets that turn up the nostalgia meter even further. The sets put you “behind the wheel” of two of the most iconic cars in history, the Batmobile and the Ecto-1.
The first is a ‘60s Batman-themed set called Batman Pursuit of the Penguin Electronic Slot Car Racing Playset.
“This set includes 4 four-gear slot cars, a Gotham City backdrop, AC power pack, 2 variable speed controllers, support pillars, flagpoles, Batman and Robin stickers, and 18-feet of track with a loop. It features multiple layout options too.”
Available for $109.99 at Entertainment Earth and for $104.87 at Amazon

Before I discovered Brisbane-based industrial horror-rock quartet Darkc3ll earlier this year, it had never really occurred to me how few artists of that inclination I'd heard coming out of Australia, so I was excited to learn of an infusion of new blood into one of my all-time favorite genres. That's not to say that their sound will come as something totally new to fans of Rob Zombie's creeptastic brand of danceable metal, or the twisted heavy rock of Marilyn Manson or Murderdolls (they've previously toured with the latter's co-founder, Wednesday 13), because there's strong evidence of those artists' influences on Darkc3ll's sound. Although the band previously released the full-length album Reboot:Repeat, it wasn't until this year that their influence began to work its way across the globe, thanks in part to their ultra-cool single “Exorcist,” which caught fire this Summer in North America, reaching the #4 spot on the iTunes Metal chart.

Syfy is finally (Finally) releasing an app for iPhone and iPad that will stream content with their new app, Syfy Now. And the Syfy viewer collective breathed a sigh of relief. I was really disappointed when I downloaded their previous app that didn’t stream. I’m so glad they’ve caught up with the likes of HBO, Disney and ABC. Here are the details and download link.

We told you back in April about Syfy‘s planned new shows for summer and fall. Things have now changed for some of the July shows and for one show that was intended to be part of the network’s 31 Days of Halloween programming, Jamie Foxx‘s five-episode horror anthology series.
According to Deadline, the series, which was to be written and directed by Foxx, has been put on hold for “scheduling reasons”. Foxx is busy promoting his about-to-be-released White House Down and has just completed his role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
But that isn’t the only changeup at Syfy; here’s the press release about July programming:

With Halloween just around the corner, we're getting lots of emails about new horror books so you can expect more stories like this over the coming weeks. On tap for today is Tobias McGriff's Savannah Shadows:Tales from the Midnight Zombie Tour.
If you visit Savannah, Georgia (known as "America's Most Haunted City"), and you're having a particularly bad (meaning "good") day, you just might experience the paranormal first-hand. Successful telecommunications engineer Tobias McGriff did, and it changed his life forever! Eventually the experience led him to a career change and a permanent move to Savannah, where he could continue his exploration into just exactly what had happened to him.
The result is Savannah Shadows:Tales from the Midnight Zombie Tour, an informative, fun, frightening, and at times even gruesome account based on his own experiences as the founder of Blue Orb Tours, considered Savannah's premier ghost tour company, and the experiences...

It looks like the team saved their spookiest stop for last on "Haunted Highway" (Tue., 10 p.m. Et on Spike). They wrapped their first season in a haunted mining town. Silver City, Idaho was once home to hundreds of active mines and millions of dollars of metals, but now it's home to some seriously scary activity.
They set up to explore several buildings from the 1800s where people had reportedly died via suicides, fires and several other means. And the houses didn't waste any time reacting to their presence.
The team heard footsteps, watched as a rocking chair began to rock on its own, a door creaked open and a lamp pivoted. But none of this was as scary as the close encounter one member of the team had.
She was in a shaft in the house when the latched door right next to her slammed closed and locked her inside.

On the penultimate episode of "Haunted Highway" (Tue., 10 p.m. Et on Syfy), the investigative team headed for California on the trail of a supposedly haunted cemetery. Cue lots of creepy night-vision shots of the team wandering through tombstones. It's a classic ghost scenario, after all!
A local they encountered shared with them an Evp recording he had made that seems to have clearly recorded a child's voice talking about his own grave.
"Mama bought me a little one. A stone. Under the last tree over there," the voice was heard to say.
Understandably, the recording was very exciting to the team. And while they were unable to capture a similar audio experience, they did get what sounded to them like a child's laughter.
The ghost they were seeking was reportedly a woman who was restless because she hadn't been allowed to be buried near her child. Could this be that child seeking the mother?...

There sure are a lot of creature and apparition sightings across America. That would explain the plethora of shows devoted to ghost or monster hunting and paranormal investigating. If networks keep making them, people must like them.
The latest is Syfy’s Haunted Highway, a six-episode original series debuting on Tuesday, July 3 at 10 Pm Et. It does not deviate from the formula. It features two teams of investigators traveling America’s back roads looking for paranormal activity and combines eyewitness interviews with evidence gathered by the teams (who utilize state-of-the-art equipment).
Episode one finds Jack (as in Osbourne) and Dana venturing to Bear Lake, Utah to look for the “Bear Lake Beast” while Jael and Devin head to Vergas, Minnesota to seek the “Vergas Hairy Man.”

The “paranormal” genre of programming — particularly, the type dealing with ghosts — has become crowded of late. Syfy’s Wednesday night programming in particular is haunted by this type of show. When Ghost Hunters is not on, as now, there are, in its place, shows like Haunted Collector, the upcoming Haunted Highway and, premiering tonight, School Spirits. School Spirits, however, tends to set itself apart from the pack in its effectiveness at setting scenes and delivering creepiness. It comes from producer Mark Burnett, the ubiquitous mind behind everything from Survivor to The Voice, and Seth Jarrett and Julie Insogna Jarrett, [...]...

Back in February we got word from Thq that Darksiders 2 would be released June 26th. However since then Thq has been dodging any questions regarding to whether or not this still holds true.
On the business side of things Thq has had a rough couple of years. Its stocks have continued to fall and the company has recently been hit with a round of layoffs. At the end of 2011 the company posted a net loss of $55.9 million dollars and could have lost up to $80 million in revenue due to the uDraw tablet’s failed expansion onto the Xbox 360 and PS3.
In a recent exclusive interview with game site Ripten, Danny Bilson who is the VP of core games was asked that due to the recent layoffs and restructuring within the company, would Darksiders 2 hit it’s original June release date? Bilson answered with,

SciFi Mafia Talks with Award-Winning Documentarian and Paranormal Witness Series Producer Mark Lewis
It’s time to debunk the myth that shows like this are all a bunch of… hooey. Yes, you read the title of this post correctly; the show’s producer is an award-winning documentarian. If you think that Paranormal Witness is some schlocky pay-for-anyone’s-ghost-story kind of show, you’re mistaken. We have some clips at the end of this post so that you can see for yourself, but first check out our interview with Mark Lewis, the series producer. Here’s his bio:
Mark Lewis is the Series Producer of Paranormal Witness on Syfy. Lewis is a multi-award-winning writer, director and producer of factual dramas and documentaries. He has made films for BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five, Discovery, the History Channel, National Geographic, PBS (Wnet), Spike, and ABC Australia. The observant among you may recall an upcoming series of Japanese cult films that appeared in these pages titled Sukeban Hunters. Spun out of the cult hit Yakuza Hunter short film the project has now expanded into a pair of features anchored by Av starlet Asami, well known in these parts for her roles in Noboru Iguchi's Sukeban Boy, Machine Girl and Robogeisha.
An early promo - featuring loads of raw footage - appeared a couple months back but now there are full, proper trailers for both completed films. And while these still quite obviously revel in their low budget, trash film roots, having the finished footage makes a big difference.
Take a look below for the trailer for both Yakuza Busting Girls: Duel in Hell (directed by Shinichi Okuda) and Yakuza Busting Girls: Yakuza Death Ride Battle (directed by Kazufumi Nakahira). Blood and gore effects for both films...

The official website for the upcoming pinky violence-inspired “Sukeban Hunters” films has been completely overhauled with links to two brand new trailers. Judging from the website, the English title is apparently “Yakuza Busting Girls”.
It probably goes without saying, but neither of these trailers are work safe.
Yakuza Busting Girls: Duel in Hell (Sukeban Hunters: Jigoku no Kettou) was written and directed by Shinichi Okuda. The intro line translates to something like “Intense gun action and gore effects by Yoshihiro Nishimura lead to the creation of an incomparable macaroni western!”
Plot: Asami returns exausted after three years of intense training to become a yakuza hunter. She decides to visit her old master, Inokuma (Sakichi Sato), who runs a bar. However, she finds his place in ruins and nothing is as it was when she left. As it turns out, the local yakuza had turned it into a gambling house and...

As with most bad horror films, the problems begin early with Seventh Moon; it starts within the first few shots. We see an annoying tourist couple snap pictures and giggle during a Moon Festival celebration in China. Like watching blissfully unaware kids at a carousel when you know the title of the movie is Death Ride, these scenes in horror movies affirm what we usually feel when we see such happy scenes in real life: that there needs to be a cost. “Dumb tourists, commodifying Chinese culture, and ignoring the obvious reality behind their ghosts and monster legends,” we think. But instead of making them monster food for the sheer horror of it all, we must endure the reality of Seventh Moon: the sheer horror is that this first scene is the real story.
