Chris takes on the original songs of Netflix's new raunchy delight...
Have you caught up to Netflix’s newest and filthiest animated series Big Mouth? From the minds of Nick Kroll and John Mulaney, it’s a take-no-prisoners look at puberty that’s actually rather sweet and thoughtful between cringeworthy, painfully reminiscent laughs. Now before you relegate it to the crass animated rung of less imaginative programs, take note that the show is quite surprising on many fronts - not least of which is its hilarious original songs.
The important role of music in youth is a recurring theme of this column but Big Mouth catches its young characters in an interesting middle ground, musically speaking. The onset of grown up hormones often means your musical tastes are growing up as well, leaving behind simpler tunes. Think of the show's musical stylings like a logical, but naughty progression from Schoolhouse Rock or Free to Be.

Alright guys. We've got a new set of "Bold And The Beautiful" teaser scoops for tomorrow's upcoming Friday, September 29,2017 episode from CBS. They sound quite interesting as we'll see Ridge trying to put a smile back on Brooke's face. There will be more intense scenes with Liam and Wyatt and more. We'll start this spoiler session off with the Ridge and Brooke storyline. It turns out that some pretty interesting stuff will take place between these two. They say Ridge will attempt to help Brooke get over her recent issues with Bill and put a smile back on her face. Additionally, he will offer her the opportunity to reclaim her old position back at Forrester Creations! The big question with this storyline is will she take back her Forrester Creations position? Also, will Ridge be able to get Brooke to smile. Hopefully, we'll find all that out in this episode.

When “Indivisible” screened for a crowd at Lincoln Center as the opening night selection of its annual “Open Roads: New Italian Cinema” series, it had no U.S. distribution plan. In late 2016, it had screened in higher-profile slots in Venice and Toronto, where buyers paid no heed. But at Lincoln Center, the movie — a seriocomic story about 18-year-old conjoined twins pursuing a music career (real-life twins Angela and Marianna Fontana) — played through the roof.
That was when Ira Deutchman saw its potential.
“I just fell in love with it,” the veteran distribution executive said. “It’s got everything in it. The movie is not a depressing, severe art film that requires people to look at it like work. Maybe distributors didn’t see the commerciality in a story about conjoined twins, but the women are beautiful and the movie is surprisingly entertaining.”

Woz and Harlee’s crew splintered under the weight of their own secrets and lies on Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 7.
Can any of them survive if they’re no longer backing one another up?
When Harlee began her confession in Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 6, I wondered just how truthful she would be. It turned out, not so much.
Wozniak: I don't know if I love you or if I hate you for what you just did.
Harlee: You and me both.
Wozniak: It was a hell of a gesture, but it doesn't absolve either of us.
Harlee: It wasn't about absolution. It was just about acknowledging what I did. They deserve to know the truth.
Wozniak: But it's not the whole truth. The FBI turned you before the heist.
Harlee: The whole truth would have broken us apart and I won't let that happen.

“In Dubious Battle” is not the first movie about a labor strike with Robert Duvall as the antagonizing boss man; that honor goes to the 1992 Disney musical starring Christian Bale, “Newsies,” in which Duvall portrayed Joseph Pulitzer. “Newsies” went on to receive five Golden Raspberry Award nominations, but it contained more drama and gusto than this humorless dirge from director-star James Franco.
This smug period drama follows the conventional narrative of an idealistic revolutionary and his fearless leader as they incite a strike among apple pickers in California’s fictional Torgas Valley. Matt Rager adapted the script from John Steinbeck’s 1936 novel, and the film is largely based on events that occurred during the California labor strikes of 1933.

Seriously, how perfectly timed was The Expanse Season 2 Episode 3 to offer parallels to some serious, present-day, world-order issues?
Spot on.
The show creators tick a ton of boxes: xenophobia, anti-immigrant backlash, patriotism, military aggression, vigilante justice, corporate ethics, bioterrorism, genocide, secret back-channel communications between government officials and an alleged terrorist group, and a religious order offering salvation to a lost soul.
But they were intertwined in such a way that it doesn’t at all feel as if the pertinent issues are just boxes being ticked. The impeccable timing and solid execution — with some breathtaking visual effects — combined to deliver another strong episode.
Meanwhile, big, bad Protomolecule was slithering and oozing all over Eros asteroid and, as Cortazar, the captured Protogen scientist excitedly noted, was “building something.”
But some of the most interesting action wasn’t taking place on the Rocinante or on Tycho Station. It’s on the Scirroco,...

The latest song You and Me from Befikre embodies a common contemporary sentiment among today’s young- a special relationship that has ‘no label’. Dharam and Shyra build up a strong comfort level with each other by just hanging out together, indulging in fun, frolic and making the most of mundane time together.
In fact, shooting for this relaxed, happy song brought in moments of unplanned enjoyment for the cast and crew. Vaani Kapoor recalls, “I remember we shot for some street side food shopping and had to shoot a portion of eating crepes together. As it was quite cold, we absolutely loved eating them, and kept eating more than we needed to!”
The song also features Vaani Kapoor hopping up and down with a plaster cast in a hospital, which Ranveer Singh, typically found hilarious. And so he was made to give company to his leading lady with this hopping step too.

Be it onscreen or off screen, Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor are leaving no chance to woe fans with their quick wit, one liners and crackling chemistry. The actors are following a simple rule of ‘no-rules-limits-labels’ in the film's trailers, songs and behind the scene videos. By now if you have started to think it as a part and parcel of their promotion strategy, we beg to differ! The attitude of the duo, is pretty much same in real as they appear in reel. ‘Candid best’ can be the simplest way to tag them up during the launch of ‘Befikre's’ new song ‘You and Me’ on November 15. In the film, Ranveer and Vaani have shared kisses as many as 23 times and this is something that has kept everyone talking about. During the press meet, Vaani, who has locked lips with Sushant Singh Rajput in ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ (2013), was asked...

Bertrand Bonello’s last film, a Yves Saint Laurent biopic, followed the famed 20th century designer from enfant terrible into the 2000s and his doddering old age. Saint Laurent’s fashion may have changed the world, but that world is now being changed by forces far more radical than any of his designs. The enfants terrible of Paris in Bonello's latest movie, Nocturama, aren’t provocative artists but rather a gang of 20-something Parisian terrorists. Shockingly, despite the ties to radical Islam of the attacks in France over the last year and a half, the terrorism of Nocturama’s youths seem to be enacted without explanation, as if in a cultural vacuum. When originally conceived, this cinematic possibility of Bonello’s clearly had the aim of presenting an abstract action. But since the real world has yet again surpassed the cinema by realizing the horrors originally considered on the silver screen,...

NocturamaDear Fern,296 feature films, 101 shorts—are you ready? Could anyone be? I can assure you, as someone lucky enough to travel to several other festivals this year before Toronto, there are many, many great films here, among them Maren Ade’s Toni Erdmann, Paul Verhoeven’s Elle (as you've already discovered), Albert Serra’s The Death of Louis Xiv, Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson, and Terence Davies’s A Quiet Passion. All easily among the year’s most surprising, most beautiful, most complex works of cinema. Don’t miss them. But what I’ve already seen is a drop in the bucket, and I have the bounty of the short films of the adventurous Wavelengths section (which Michael Sicinski has wonderfully and extensively covered for us) to come; along with not one but two Terrence Malick films (really two cuts of the same film), not one but two Werner Herzog movies...

For all his experience as a producer and writer — most notably as the head of Focus Features, and most specifically as a longtime associate of Ang Lee — it was an odd choice on James Schamus‘ part to make a directorial debut in his late ’50s — and especially by adapting Philip Roth, whose psychologically dense prose, to name but one thing, has stifled those attempting book-to-screen translations. But no matter the author’s typically precise and internalized perspective, the text in question, Indignation, should be an easier work to slide into, in some part because its ’50s-college setting creates an atmosphere that could easily be brought to cinema. Here’s the good news: to view Schamus’ own Indignation is to again witness an understanding of time and place.
Even better was the act of interviewing him. The extent of Schamus’ experience and knowledge — it’s only so often you interview someone...

Beyoncé's Lemonade dropped over the weekend, and the first thing that most of its listeners noticed was that it seems to paint a not-stellar picture of Bey and Jay Z's marriage. At least one celebrity has already been caught up in the firestorm: Rachel Roy, who's the rumored focus of the line "He better call Becky with the good hair" in the album's fourth track, "Sorry." But there's a lot more to unpack with Lemonade, so let's go track-by-track and do this, shall we? (And if you're looking to stream along, you're out of luck unless you have a Tidal account,...

Ivana Trump is speaking out about her ex-husband Donald Trump's campaign for the White House in a revealing new interview with the New York Post. Ivana, who was married to the 69-year-old from 1977 to 1992, and shares three of his five children, publicly - and privately - supports the Gop frontrunner, and helps advise him on policy, she claims. "We speak before and after the appearances and he asks me what I thought," Ivana, 67, sais. Constance Wu, who's known for playing Jessica Huang, the ambitious and hilarious mom on Fresh Off the Boat, has found a darker film role: You and Me Both, from writer and director Jennifer Cho Suhr, about an addict who travels across the country with her sister in search of their birth mother. According to Variety, the film is "aimed at showcasing the breadth and range of the Asian American experience with complicated and deeply human characters." The film sounds like a good fit for Wu, who recently told The New York Times Magazine, "I’d like to continue doing drama. And I’d like to promote Asian-American stories, where the Asians carry the story and where being Asian-American is not the only part of their identity, but it’s a beautiful part of their identity that we want to show." Done and done.

It’s the third official single from their album Made in the Am, and One Direction just released the video for “History,” thanks to popular demand from their fans.
The “What Makes You Beautiful” crooners, who are currently on an indefinite hiatus, address the band-fan relationship in their lyrics, adding meaning to the pop ditty.
They sing, “You and me got a whole lot of history/We could be the greatest team that the world has ever seen/You and me got a whole lot of history/So don’t let it go, we can make some more, we can live forever.” Check the clip!

2000-2010 was a landmark period for the indie rock revival that swept up the western music scene with the likes of Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand and others all achieving widespread attention from the music press and the public with genre defining highlights.
Some bands however weren’t as much apart of the craze, not due to a lack of talent but simply because the landscape of the genre became so convoluted with mimicking and trend-jumpers that some simply got lost in the shuffle. It’s a shame because many of these band’s records more than give the break out artists a run for their money.
The ten entries on this list epitomize those albums of the noughties that got lost in a sea of angular guitars and lyrical whimsy, that either commercially or critically didn’t garner the appreciation that they deserved to.

Best Song Oscar 2016 contender 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' with Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. 74 entries in contention for 2016 Best Song Academy Award 'Tis the season for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to announce the semi-finalists – in some instances, the semi-semi-finalists – for the Academy Awards. There are 74 contenders, with titles ranging from “Happy” and “I'll See You in My Dreams” to “Hypnosis” and “Bhoomiyilenghanumundo.” Curiously, apart from the inevitable animated and/or kiddie flicks (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Anomalisa, Pan, Shaun the Sheep Movie, Home, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water, etc.) most of this year's contenders are songs from smaller movies and Bollywood/South Asian releases. Exceptions include Sam Taylor-Johnson's Fifty Shades of Grey, Ryan Coogler's Creed, Kenneth Branagh's...

A quick review of tonight's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" coming up just as soon as I can prove intent to fart... By now, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is a stage where it has a lot of old reliables, joke-wise. Anytime a scene needs a laugh, the show can always lean on Terry announcing his like of something unexpected, or Holt uttering an amusing word or phrase (or, really, Holt saying any words at all, as we saw last week with "Paaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiin"), or Santiago struggling to contain her enthusiasm for something no one else cares about. Or, as we got throughout the very funny A-story of "Boyle's Hunch," the show can always go to Boyle being disgusting on the subjects of food and/or sex. The week after one of Charles' flings was ruined because Lt. Singh turned out to be a vegan, he runs into an attractive woman (played by Chloe herself, Mary Lynn Rajskub...

As most of us Whovians and ComicMixers know, BBC America became the All Doctor Who All The Wibbly Wobbly Timey Winey Stuff network this past week in honor of the premiere of Season 9 – which, as I write this, airs tonight, Saturday, September 19. So I pretty much kept my TV tuned to channel 101 (the BBC America station on my cable system), except for some episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Hardball with Chris Matthews – oh, and the first half-hour of the Repugnantican debate on CNN, of which the less I have to say about that sorry affair the better, except that it disgusted me, and I returned to the All Doctor Who All The Wibbly Wobbly Timey Winey Stuff with relief.
So here’s a rundown of my opinions of random episodes in the lives of the Doctor.

Fallen Objects. Image: Courtesy of the artistHey Fernando, are you at a film right now? Sneaking away from the festival always feels so wrong, doesn't it? We're here to grind through, to fill every empty moment in our day with yet another film or another few dashed words of writing, and so stepping out of the multiplex to grab a leisurely meal with a friend or to explore a new neighborhood inspires in me nothing but guilt. Luckily, the festival has thought of such things and has given me reasons to get away from the festival center...more films! The Wavelengths section, which curates a more radical type of cinema than the rest of the fest, has often featured video art pieces installed both near and far during the festival (you may recall last year I reported on a wonderful piece in Future Projections, the old name of the Wavelengths...

Everyone always talks about superhero fatigue, but what about young adult sci-fi fatigue?
Those movies are just as prevalent as their spandex-clad counterparts – both “sub-genres” offered up three entries this year – and what the adaptations of teen fiction lack in the longevity of those from comic books, they more than make up for in a head-banging lack of diversity. You see, while superheroes have had their various stages of development (initial boom, gritty reboot, shared universes) push filmmakers to try new things, Ya has only one setting – Hunger Games imitation.
Ever since that series became a billion dollar venture, everyone’s being trying to cash in, no matter how careless it seems. The Maze Runner may not be as blatant about this as rip-off leader Divergent, but it’s certainly lazier in its attempts to cultivate a Panem-size hit.
