Mubi is continuing its partnership with Dok Leipzig to showcase highlights from their tribute Visual Electrics. The Cinema of Jay Rosenblatt in this year’s 60th festival edition. Mubi's retrospective is showing November 3, 2017 - March 4, 2018 in most countries around the world. It is a common and justified rhetorical device to begin an article on the retrospective of a filmmaker with an impression, a little observation or the description of a scene. However, being confronted with the work of San Francisco-based found footage worker Jay Rosenblatt the idea of a single, autonomous moment vanishes behind multicolored layers of streaming emotions. Just a few days after the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film I find it enormously hard to remember a single scene. As the filmmaker said himself during one of the Q&A sessions in Leipzig, “They [the films] all kind of blend together.” Well, they do and in this one might find the personal,...

The odds of having your short film included in this year’s Sundance Film Festival are .008 percent. Out of the 66 short film line-up (selected among 8,161 submissions) we find actress Rose McGowan move behind the camera for her directing debut (Dawn), we have Ain’t Them Bodies Saints producer Toby Halbrooks shovel out Dig (see pic above) and Todd Rohal (The Guatemalan Handshake) returns to the fest in between features with Rat Pack Rat. Filmmaker Magazine New Faces of Independent Film director Dean Fleischer-Camp rolls up his shirt sleeves with Catherine, Matthew Lessner returns to Park City with the helping hand Chapel Perilous while The Strange Ones (’11 accepted short) co-helmer Christopher Radcliff won’t be making a dissappearing act with Jonathan’s Chest. Finally docu feature-film helmer Lucy Walker moves into The Lion’s Mouth Opens. I’ll of course be covering several of these – look out for our coverage.

Short films can go a long way. Especially when they’re showcased at the Sundance Film Festival. The festival’s Shorts program, which was announced today, has a tradition of identifying remarkable filmmakers as well as introducing stories that ultimately make it to the big-screen as features. For example, David O. Russell brought his first film, a short titled Bingo Inferno to Sundance in 1987, while Half Nelson, which earned Ryan Gosling his first Oscar nomination, grew out of Ryan Fleck’s 2004 Sundance short titled, Gowanus, Brooklyn. “If you look back at the directors who got their start by having a short at Sundance,...

Arizona seems to be running strong until she doubles over with pain from her left leg. Arizona falls to the ground as her left leg shatters like glass. Then Arizona wakes up screaming from a nightmare. Callie stirs but Arizona tells her to go back to bed. It turns out Arizona is suffering from phantom limb syndrome. Never heard of it? Grey’s Anatomy aired "Walking on a Dream this week, an episode that brought a new face to the hospital, while also offering a setback for Arizona - along with a big step forward for Mer. Let’s discuss, shall we?
Phantom Limbs. Arizona has been dealing with Phantom Limb Syndrome, something that makes you feel pain in an amputated limb. Can you imagine? Not only was she in a plane crash, but she lost her leg and now she is feeling pain in something that is not even there?!? Luckily, she has Owen to help her.
It was seriously enjoyable to see Owen in an arc that wasn’t related to Yang. Although I am a fan of the Cristina/Owen ship, it’s still important that they have their own stories. Kevin McKidd was great in this one. Even better? Jessica Capshaw. She has been playing this character amazingly since the plane crash.

On this week's installment of "Grey's Anatomy," phantom limb syndrome takes over Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) and the pediatric surgeon -- who had recently (finally) made some progress since losing her leg in a plane crash at the start of Season 9 -- is going to experience a major setback.
Phantom limb syndrome plagues the majority of amputees, "Grey's" star Capshaw explained to HuffPost TV via phone, and it causes painful sensations that an amputated limb is still attached to the body and is moving appropriately with other body parts. "I can only imagine how devastating it would be," Capshaw said. "And it would certainly stop you in your tracks as far as recovery goes. How do you deal with that?"
Below, Capshaw opens up about Arizona's battle this season (which initially "scared [her] off"), being behind this season ("because sometimes it's actually hard to watch"), potential firings at Seattle Grace in...

Arizona’s road to recovery following the plane crash that claimed the lives of two Seattle Grace doctors has been slow going, and Jessica Capshaw, who plays the bubbly pediatrician wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I think there’s so many different steps in covering this story accurately, and I think the writers have done such an incredible job of wanting to stay so close to the truth and actual experience of losing a limb,” she says. “In all that research I think they’ve picked up along the way the things that would fit into stories as far as Grey’s goes.

Last weekend, some of the biggest and best bands from all over the world parked their fluid-stained buses in the fluid-stained bus capital of the world, San Francisco, for the Outside Lands Music Festival. Outside Lands is a 3-Day outdoor festival in San Fran’s beautiful Golden Gate Park, a park whose streams would soon run amber with the urine of drunk a-holes. Now my own experience with music festivals was not necessarily great. Back in 2001, while I was studying abroad in Budapest, I made the “adult” decision to travel to Nuremberg, Germany (“Home of the Trials!”) for MTV’s Rock-Im-Park festival, mainly because Radiohead was going to be playing, with a side of Dave Coulier’s ex-gf Alanis. My friends and I bought sleeping bags but decided against getting a tent, because it was June in Germany and I was Tim Pawlenty sure it would be warm enough! Meanwhile...

The art of parody doesn’t aspire to great heights. Typically, it takes a target, ridicules its subject matter or approach to it, and then closes with a laugh. It seeks to entertain and possibly provide a new slant on the same message. Parody doesn’t evolve. It might build up a catalog of jokes on popular topics, but it never reaches for a self-sustaining existence, one where it dreams up its own comic basis, content to latch on and draw material from elsewhere. That’s where The Venture Bros. started, as a show that lambasted Hanna-Barbera adventure shows like Jonny Quest or Scooby-Doo by staging its own series of random adventures based on the life of a resentful scientist who grew up as the son of the world’s most beloved mystery-solving, crime fighting hero.
As the series worked its way through the first season, it was clear it had aspirations beyond adventure parody.

How fitting that The Venture Bros. "Bright Lights, Dean City" would come to New York the very same weekend as New York Comic-Con, wherein we caught the Venture panel and got our own chance to interview series creators Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick.
But as far as the episode goes, ending thoughts read "of course." Of course last week's reveal of an alternate universe success story Dr. Venture would turn out to be a one-note gag largely unexplored. The Venture Bros. rarely deals with the impact of its setups. Instead of a season-long Fringe style story about a parallel universe, Venturnative (clever, no?) merely told us of Rusty's plans to replace his perfect life before disappearing into obscurity.
It's exactly the type of narrative fake-out you expect from the Venture Bros, but I honestly can't believe I've used this many words to describe "Bright Lights, Dean City' without mentioning the...

In contrast to the film noir styling of last week’s episode, "Bright Lights, Dean City" went back to being a standard offering of color and style and showed us how Dean Venture spent his summer working.
With the recent release of Phantom Limb, along with him working with Professor Impossible, it really should not come as a surprise to anyone that the two of them (along with Baron Underbheit) are forming a new villain team, The Revenge Society. But they ran into a few hiccups along the way. The biggest obstacle? Recruiting new members. Though the appearance of man in a bear suit, with blood on it, holding a knife and not saying a word did rattle the team a bit (as it should).
We also learned that Dean’s real dream is to be a boy reporter. Last week, we discovered that Hank wanted to be a detective.

I'm very satisfied with the latest episodes of The Venture Bros. The idea that despite its technical place among the latter half of a landmark season "Everybody Comes to Hank's" doesn't spin its wheels for doling out answers.
We've seen the "noir," episode done to death in everything from Fringe to Smallville, Boy Meets World and back. The effort to acknowledge and toy with the idea through Hank's perception doesn't go unnoticed - nor does the continuing plot of the titular Venture Brothers getting real lives (or real clone lives) following their graduation from bed (yeah.) It also doesn't hurt that the sense of continuity will continue the following week with Dean's actual time in the city for his internship.
What's the big question? Well, Dermot's been a sore spot since the third season. Annoying as the character may be, we couldn't help wondering about his supposed relation to Brock,...

The Venture Bros. isn't your typical TV show. It's not your typical action comedy, cartoon or even absurdist satire. And exactly as "Every Which Way But Zeus" leaves us in stunned silence, so too do the questions posed between writers Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick remain unanswered.
Much as iPod selections or a fantasy fist fight between Anne Frank and Lizzy Borden become subplots within the context of an entire episode, monumental revelations and tense plot points can be addressed without a second thought. Last week's turn of Phantom Limb's return and Professor Impossible's conversion fit the mold of The Venture Bros' usual slow boil and yet we've already seen the two return this week by largely uneventful means.

The Venture Bros. has a habit of jumping between characters rather drastically, understandable given the show's short running time and extensive roster of peripherals. Whereas last week's "The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-Glider" dealt mostly with the Monarch and his minions, "Pomp & Circuitry" focuses instead on the other, more washed-out villains that occupy the Venture-Verse; namely Phantom Limb, Baron Underbheit (who hasn't been seen since season two) and even Professor Impossible.
One of the reasons the show succeeds where others grow stale in their later seasons is its willingness to let certain plots simmer over time, while keeping aware of growing and changing contuinity. Baron Underbheit may not have much impact on the plot, but we appreciate his return appearance, nicely complementing the re-rise of Phantom Limb as a credible threat.

Short of his bizarre and fruitless plot in "The Revenge Society," earlier this season, Phantom Limb hasn't had any...

While I am excited that we are finally getting to see the rest of the season four episodes, I have to admit that this week’s episode, ""Pomp & Circuitry," while enjoyable as a whole, felt a bit disjointed.
First off, who knew Hank would make such an awesome S.P.H.I.N.X. spy? It was nice to see he actually has gotten some skills from Brock with all the traveling they did together. However, I am glad that Hank is not running off to S.P.H.I.N.X. just yet. I think Dean would be a bit lost without him.
I will now always worry if I put a toaster, a shoe, and files in the same drawer. Seeing what Phantom Limb was able to do with those was either pure genius or pure madness (maybe a bit of both.). I am constantly reminded how incredible...

Hush Your Mouth was released on DVD yesterday. It’s a gritty look at a young man’s way of coping after his brother is killed. The movie looks at how he, his sister and his mother cope with this tragedy as well as following the way in which the police track down who committed the crime. Hush Your Mouth features a cast which includes Jay Simpson , Jason Maza, Jessica Jones and Coshti Dowden.
We got to interview writer / director, Tom Tyrwhitt about the movie which you can see below:
——————————
HeyUGuys: You’re continuing a British tradition of taking an unflinching look at life in the capital – what films or directors influenced you in your work?
Tom Tyrwhitt: I didn’t really look at any London films when writing or directing Hush Your Mouth. I wanted it to have sections and sequences that were all about action and sound...

Psssh, who needs Comic-Con! Now you can check out the latest trailer for the Venture Bros. season 4.5! Or season 5! Or whatever the hell you want to call it! The point is that it's free to stream to you, without all that annoying fanboy screaming (though feel free to scream if you like!)
In this latest trailer you'll see snippets of a few upcoming episodes, most of which seem to make sense within the context of one or two episodes, provided you watch it enough times to put all the pieces together. Which you will!
We previously reported on the trailer from the Venture Bros. panel at Sdcc, as well as a the Adult Swim panel that showed several clips from the new season, in place of the trailer.
After watching five or six times, check out some additional in-depth thoughts below, or sound off yourself!
Perhaps a little fanboy crossover,...

"The Venture Brothers" will continue with the release their newest season, either season 4.2 or Season 5, depending on how you look at it. But it drops September 18th on Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network.
All your favorites are back, including Phantom Limb and Baron Unterbeit and The Triad. There's an hour long season finale -- that looks to be a musical. They showed us a sizzle reel, and ... it's almost impossible to explain it other than with a girlish release of the forbidden word. So amplify that by the power of ten, and you've about got it.
The final shot featured an army of zombie-looking clones of Dean and Hank swarming The Monarch. So ... yeah, this is gonna be damn good.

Go Team Venture! We stealthily found our way into the Venture Bros. panel after interviewing the stars of Chuck, and got all the juicy details for you regarding the next season!
Creators Doc Hammor and Jackson Publick, as well as voice stars James Urbaniak and Patrick Warburton headlined the panel, taking fan questions, reminiscing about the precious little time they actually spend together due to the production process, and a sizeable portion of the event devoted to Doc Hammer's love of spectacularly bad independent movie Incognito.
But you don't care about that, do you! You want to know all the news of the Venture-Verse! Well, wait no longer! We can tell you that in addition to the clips screened at the Adult Swim Panel yesterday, Jackson and Doc debuted a brand new trailer for the remaining half of season four! Or is it season five! Or perhaps 4.II - Rise of the Silver Surfer?...

Last night, The Venture Bros. brought back several untied loose ends from season three and packed them all into an amazing half hour of television. Questions such as what happened to Phantom Limb and the Orb were answered and you can find out how in our "The Revenge Society" recap.
We're just here to give you some thoughts about the episode in our review:
We wonder how Brock would have handled things when the Guild showed up. Unlike Sgt. Hatred's hilarious antics with Hank, we're pretty sure he would have laid low and out of their way like he did during the "Trial of the Monarch." So for once... we're almost kind of glad to have Hatred. Almost. How hilarious was the flashback to Phantom Limb's grandfather? We loved the council men were a bunch of kidnapped musicians including Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Eno. Sure makes David Bowie...

Just when we were wondering if we'd ever hear from Phantom Limb again on The Venture Bros.(other than his brief, post-credit revenge against Manotaur), we saw the most amazing promo after last week's episode, "Return to Malice."
In the upcoming episode, "The Revenge Society," Phantom Limb returns under a new name and tries to exact revenge against The Guild of Calamitous Intent. Meanwhile, the Guild tries to invade the Venture Compound and Sgt. Hatred and Hank team up to stop them.
Just watch the following promo in case you missed it, or like us, you're just obsessed with show and want to watch it a few more times.

I'm still not entirely sold on Sgt. Hatred being Venture Bros regular. The character design is all right, and the name is solid, but compared to the Monarch and Phantom Limb, I'm just not feeling it. So far, he hasn't really stuck out in his own in any way but one—and that whole "child molesting" thing is definitely not working for me. Hatred makes an appearance at the climax of "The Buddy System" that works decent, but when a bunch of kids attack him and there's yet another reference to the ruling about the Sgt's problem with "sexy" boys, it was a little off-putting. Worse, it's not particularly funny; the molestation gag only really worked as a one-off last season, about a character we rarely saw. Now that he's a recurring, it's just weird. This week's story: In a desperate attempt to raise some much need cash, Doctor Venture.
