Fifty-one years ago, director Tobe Hooper and his cast and crew spent a blisteringly hot Texas summer working to bring us one of the greatest horror films ever made, the 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (watch it Here)… and to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the release of the film, legendary drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs is writing a book about the making of it!
During an interview on the Mistress Harley podcast (note: that link is for adults only), Joe Bob revealed, “I have just signed a contract with Dark Horse, which is mostly known for their comics, but they also do books. (With Dark Horse) I’m gonna do two books: we’re gonna reprint Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In, which is my original reviews … and then we’re gonna do a 50th anniversary book that’s the entire back story of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The events of Gun’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game take place before the events of Tobe Hooper’s classic horror movie, beginning with the disappearance of Maria Flores. Maria’s sister (Anna Flores) and her friends head out to Texas to investigate, and that’s essentially the storyline behind every match of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre that you play.
In celebration of the video game hitting 1.1 million units sold and 5.6 million total players, Gun Interactive has relaunched Petals today, a free-to-play online photography game.
Gun previews the experience that first launched in 2022, “Go back to where it all started and experience the story of Maria’s fateful trip with Petals, a floral photography game.
“Walk in her shoes and learn more about her disappearance.”
You can download the Free exploration sim and start playing now!
What can you expect from the game in the coming months?...

Back on Friday, Gun Interactive announced the impending farewell of Sumo Nottingham, the original developer for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Obviously, fans were worried who was going to pick up development of the asymmetrical multiplayer game. We now have our answer in the form of Black Tower Studios.
Friday The 13th: The Game players will be familiar with Black Tower Studios, as the Japanese developer took over development duties on Friday The 13th: The Game from IllFonic back in 2018. Their work included the Jarvis House and Pinehurst maps for that game, as well as provided support. Both of the teams at Sumo Nottingham and Gun Interactive are currently on-boarding Black Tower Studios to the project over the course of the next month. After which, Black Tower Studios will be working on the future Dlc content for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Marcel Walz is channeling the spirit of 1970s classics with his next horror movie Brute 1976, and Deadline brings us details and a first look this morning.
From Neon Noir, the upcoming Brute 1976 is said to be a love letter to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, with Joe Knetter (Twilight of the Dead) writing.
Deadline details, “Brute 1976 will begin with the story of Raquel and her girlfriend, whose car breaks down in the middle of nowhere as they travel to a photoshoot in the desert to celebrate Bicentennial unity. They stumble across an abandoned mine and explore it, while the photoshoot group replace her with make-up artist Sunshine and then find abandoned town Savage, which has a violent history but is the perfect place to take some photos.
“However, a family of masked psychopaths has claimed the town for themselves and are hell bent on it living up to its name.

As of this writing, there are nine movies in the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" series, and sussing out their chronology is one of the more herculean tasks a horror fan may find themselves undertaking. Like the "Halloween" movies, the "Texas Chainsaw" flicks abide by a choose-your-own-adventure structure, with some movies following a definite timeline, and others merrily ignoring previous chapters. Confoundingly, several of them have almost identical titles. The only consistent element of "Texas Chainsaw" is that they are all horrifically violent and unbearably disturbing. But, y'know, in a good way.
The premise of the "Texas Chainsaw" movies is simple. Thanks to rampant American poverty, entire families have been forced to live off the grid in remote, rural parts of the country. One of these families, largely inbred and blissfully detached from conventional morality, has taken to kidnapping passersby, stripping them for meat, and using their skin and bones as construction materials.

Gun Interactive did a little teasing a few weeks back regarding more new content for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and now they’ve revealed that new content arrives on November 28th in the form of a brand new free map with Nancy’s House. And as you’d expect, the deceptive Nancy will be joining the game as a new member of the Family, along with Danny as a new Victim. Both can be purchased the same day as the map’s release for $9.99 each.
As you’ll see from the trailer, Nancy isn’t quite as sweet as she initially appears. No info yet on what Nancy and Danny’s abilities are at the moment, but we’ll surely hear more about them soon.
Along with Nancy’s House and the new characters, Gun Interactive will also roll out a new quality-of-life patch that includes over 250 fixes for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

John Carpenter is a master of horror — the man practically invented the slasher subgenre with 1978’s Halloween (with a big assist from Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Peeping Tom). His remake of The Thing in 1982 is still regularly cited as one of the most terrifying films of all time. Not to mention the fact that he went on to make In the Mouth of Madness, They Live, and Christine. If we ignore his 1998 film Vampires (and we really should ignore it), Carpenter has one of the most pristine cinematic records for churning out terrifying horror time and time again.

The 1970s: A time when vinyl wasn’t just a hipster trend, lava lamps lit up rooms with their hypnotic glow, and horror movies? Well, they were in a league of their own, especially the underrated 70s horror movies that have remained hidden gems over the decades. This was a decade that redefined cinema, pushing boundaries and daring to venture into the dark, unexplored corners of the human psyche. While the big names like The Exorcist and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre were making waves and scaring audiences worldwide, there was an undercurrent of films that, though lesser-known, packed just as much punch.
At Nightmare on Film Street, we’re all about digging up those hidden treasures, the unsung heroes of horror that might’ve slipped under the radar but deserve a standing ovation. So, pop on your platform shoes, slap on some groovy tunes, and join us as we...

Los Angeles, Aug 30 (Ians) Rapper Doja Cat has unveiled the trailer for her latest music video to her single ‘Demons’.
In the video, the rapper has joined forces with actress Christina Ricci who will be making a surprise appearance in the video.
According to the Daily Mail, the video follows a spat Doja Cat had with her fans which saw her losing hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers.
The trailer for this, was unveiled during a screening of the classic ’80s horror film ‘Poltergeist’, which was produced and co-written by Steven Spielberg and directed by The Texas Chain Saw Massacre filmmaker Tobe Hooper.
The clip appears to carry influence from directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 double-feature film event ‘Grindhouse’, borrowing the movie’s emulation of the now long defunct American theatres, which from 1920’s to the 1980’s were known for featuring low budget horror films and exploitation films with overly sexualised nature.

August has been a significant month for Screambox, which celebrated the anniversary of Tobe Hooper’s original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, took a look back at the classic 1985 movie Clue in Who Done It: The Clue Documentary, got creature feature crazy with the sci-fi horror Subject, and had a blast with the Ghostbusters-inspired sci-fi horror comedy The Ghastly Brothers.
In addition to the extremely controversial The Woman hitting the streaming service last week, Screambox has now added Ti West‘s supernatural classic The Innkeepers, courtesy of MPI and Dark Sky Films!
“While director Ti West’s brand of slow burn horror tends to be divisive, as slow burn horror is in general, The Innkeepers presents itself as a worthy selection for being based around and shot in an actual haunted hotel; the Yankee Pedlar Inn,” writes Meagan Navarro.
In the film, “The Yankee Pedlar Inn is in the process of closing.

Now that Gun Interactive’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is out in the wild, just how is the game faring with players? According to Gun Interactive themselves, the asymmetrical multiplayer title is doing just fine. Well, more than fine.
As revealed on their official Twitter/X account, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has seen over a million players across consoles and PC in the 24 hours since the game went live. In case you were curious, the developers didn’t reveal just yet how many Victims survived the Slaughter Family, and how many were turned into BBQ.
Gun Interactive also didn’t break down the numbers of players who bought the game, and who were enjoying it on Xbox Game Pass. Still, having over one million players playing your game right out of the gate is no small feat. The real test will be maintaining the player base count, which...

Spirit Halloween is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and the enthusiasm surrounding the retailer couldn’t have been more clear than during the annual grand opening of its flagship store in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. The parking lot of 6725 Black Horse Pike was literally filled to the brim on the morning of July 29 with families, enthusiasts and even cosplayers eager for their chance to see what Spirit has in store for this Halloween season. You may be thinking: It’s not even August yet, is it really time to start decking the halls with boughs of horror?

It’s hot, it’s summer, so it’s the perfect time for Gun Interactive to drop a new trailer for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Ahead of the game’s release next month, the new trailer debut during the ID@Xbox Showcase, featuring some familiar faces, as well as a taste of the game’s brutal kills.
Including the likes of the infamous Leatherface from the original 1974 film, the trailer “paints a vivid, bloody picture of the dangers and mayhem that await players”.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre takes place in the months leading up to the events of the original 1974 film, and features authentic recreations of the locations, characters, and imagery of the source material. Players control either the Victims or members of the Slaughter Family in a vicious game of 3v4 cat-and-mouse that takes the tension and suspense of the film and repurposes it into thrilling, competitive action.

Real-life killer and grave-robber Ed Gein was the inspiration for several horror movie villains, including Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs, Norman Bates from Psycho and Leatherface from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Gein’s horrific crimes will be profiled in the four-episode true crime docuseries Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein from MGM+.
Directed and executive produced by James Buddy Day, the docuseries will premiere on MGM+ in September.
This MGM+ original docuseries follows the horrifying grave robber and serial killer Ed Gein, otherwise known as “The Plainfield Ghoul” and “The Mad Butcher.”
For years, filmmakers, journalists, and scholars have tried to unravel the mind of this notorious killer, and with new reveals and never-before-heard recordings, viewers will be transported to late-1950s Middle America and submerged in Gein’s perverse mind. The series explores Gein’s upbringing and twisted relationship with his mother (which...

With the Technical Test for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre just a week away, and to go along with the release of the “Lo-fi Leatherface” Youtube channel, Gun Interactive has released to digital streaming services the Official Soundtrack to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. To go along with the soundtrack, they’ve also released “Remains”, a companion album by Gun CEO Wes Keltner and composer Jim Bonney.
Now digitally available on Spotify and Apple Music, the pair of albums allow fans to get a taste of what’s in store. For example, “The Massacre”, the main theme song from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre soundtrack, is composed of pig screams, chainsaws, and scraped metal, as well as other equipment like the Soma Lyra drone machine. It also features Keltner performing on the Apprehension Engine, the custom-made musical instrument played by the likes of Mark Korven and Trent Reznor, and which...

As diverse in style and content as they are, Álex de la Iglesia’s films do share a few notable characteristics: an adrenaline-rush narrative propulsion, a penchant for startling left-hand swerves in their storylines, and an almost gleeful willingness to offend more delicate sensibilities when it comes to depictions of sex, violence, and religion. This holds true from the start of his career. De la Iglesia’s feature debut, the scrappy sci-fi satire Acción Mutante, revels in the chaos of his anarchic sensibilities, even if its critique of religion is mostly limited to a hysterical takedown of the sanctity of marriage.

Before becoming one of the most divisive filmmakers in horror with the likes of Halloween and The Munsters, Rob Zombie was just a musician trying his hand at the film industry. House of 1000 Corpses came together fairly quickly following a failed attempt to reboot The Crow, but the rock star’s Hollywood career almost never was due to post-production controversy that left his directorial debut on the shelf for three years.
Production on Corpses was completed in 2000 before Universal Studios refused to release it due to its objectionable content. MGM later came on board to distribute it in 2002 until a tongue-in-cheek remark by Zombie caused them to cancel the deal. Finally, Lions Gate signed on and released it in April of 2003, launching Zombie’s film career as well as a franchise that would be followed by 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects and 2019’s 3 from Hell.

Consider the chainsaw.
A piece of motorized machinery that moves sharp, metal teeth along a chain, rapidly cutting its way through just about anything you could reasonably want to cut. To many, the chainsaw is a piece of gardening equipment, perfectly suited to chop down trees. But to horror filmmakers, the chainsaw is a weapon of mass tissue destruction, a gory death-dealing device wielded by maniacs and, occasionally, maniacs heroically fighting those other maniacs.
The irony is that horror filmmakers are a little bit closer to the chainsaw's original intention. Invented in the 1780s by doctors John Aitken and James Jeffray, the device was originally intended to saw through human tissue. But in a well-intentioned, medical way. Not in a creepy "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" way.
And yet, by putting "Chainsaw" in the title (or "Chain Saw" if we're being specific), Tobe Hooper's incredible horror classic pretty much claimed chainsaws as part of its identity.

Life is full of little disappointments. People rarely land their dream jobs. The partner of your dreams rarely materializes. The McRib will never be a permanent menu item.
We deal with these micro-heartbreaks as best we can. We endure. We must, as Sonia advised Uncle Vanya, live our lives. But I'm not sure I want to live in a world where the animated "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures" won't end with Anakin Skywalker massacring a bunch of younglings.
As you likely remember, the tragic third act of "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith" features the soon-to-be-Darth-Vader making a lightsaber hash out of the young Jedi trainees. The wanton murder of children is not typically funny, but the tonal mixture is so off in these movies that the most crushing moments are often unintentionally hilarious. For example, in the 2000s, the maniacs at Ytmnd, Inc. made uproarious hay...

It may be apocryphal, but apparently when he attended a cinema club screening of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, then director of the BBFC James Ferman said something along the lines of “It’s all right for you middle-class cineastes to see this film, but what would happen if a factory worker in Manchester happened to see it?” This snobbery, and Ferman’s insistence that it wasn’t any one image that kept him from granting the film an X (later 18) certificate but ‘an atmosphere of madness, threat and impeding violence’ kept The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from the eyes of the great unwashed until Ferman’s retirement in 1999.

"None of you seem concerned." "What is wrong with you people?!" Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Cannibal Cabin, from an indie genre filmmaker named Louisa Warren. The super low budget horror is "loosely based on real events," mainly telling yet another crazy story of weird cannibal people. As inspired by Texas Chain Saw Massacre and other much better horror from the past. A group of 20 somethings head to a secret rave deep in the valley. When their route is detoured they have no choice but to venture into the unknown. When they come across a derelict aqua park, they soon realize what they thought was their rescue turns out to be the very heart of the Cannibals lair. Starring Mia Lacostena, Richard Summers-Calvert, Harvey Almond, and Jane Buckle. Everything about this looks bad, from the cringe acting to the digital shots to the mediocre bad guys.

According to /Film readers, the "Alien" film series is the greatest horror franchise ever. Yes, the xenomorph-starring series certainly has some strong films. However, it's not the most consistent (more on that later), so I disagree. Throughout horror history, sequels, remakes, and reboots have spawned franchises in sub-genres ranging from slashers to the paranormal. No IP is immune to a barrage of iterations. Sometimes, they work. Other times, well ... They leave much to be desired.
Whether we're talking heavy hitters like "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Halloween" or offbeat series such as "The Living Dead," there's always a franchise to gnash your teeth on as a horror fan. Ghoulish monsters, vengeful witches, cannibal serial killers, and disturbed sleep demons decorate our favorite storytelling medium with nightmare fuel. But they're not all created equal.

Ahead of next month’s technical playtest, Gun Interactive dropped a new making-of featurette for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre that delves into the team’s creative processes, highlighting all the excitement and difficulties that come with working on such a beloved franchise.
Featuring interviews with eight different team members of both Gun Interactive and co-developer Sumo Nottingham, the making-of video “illustrates the guiding philosophies that informed the design and development of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre“, involving key members from both teams sharing their personal ties to the series as well as their individual contributions to the game.

Let’s face facts: Xbox Game Pass is kinda awesome. The subscription service features an ever-growing library of titles and is generally cheaper than purchasing a major new game every month. That is good news, especially for Xbox Series S owners who rely on that service’s cloud features to keep up with a rapidly advancing new generation of gaming. Of course, since 2023 is going to be full of must-play games, and only some of those games are coming to Game Pass right away, it’s important to keep up with which new releases you’ll be able to play via the service on day one.
Unlike PlayStation’s game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass often features new releases available to subscribers on the day that they launch. While the Game Pass library is also filled with retro, indie, and other third-party games, it’s the service’s collection of...

Occasionally a critic will write something that gets readers seriously riled. God knows I’ve done it. If I had to list my three greatest hits of outrage, they would probably be my pans of “Pretty Woman,” “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and “Let the Right One In.” It’s no accident that the last of those is a horror film. Over the years, I’ve ticked off more horror fans than I can count, and it’s all because of something that we totally share: a passion for the genre that’s nothing short of consuming. A great horror movie hits you on every level — heart, mind, eye, squirm-in-your-seat body shudder. Maybe that’s why when we disagree about them, it can feel like war.

Rob Zombie is a titan of modern horror. He’s got a load of awesome movies under his belt, with last year’s 3 From Hell more than living up to his gonzo reputation. I even have a soft spot for his much-maligned take on the Halloween franchise (though the 2018 Blumhouse reboot leaves it in the dust). But it all began for Zombie with the epic cult hit House of 1000 Corpses, which is due to land on Netflix in just a few days.

1982’s Poltergeist is regarded as a classic of the horror genre, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given the talent involved. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre‘s Tobe Hooper directed the supernatural chiller, while Steven Spielberg initially wanted to get behind the camera but couldn’t due to a contractual issue. Still, he remained on board as a heavily involved producer and co-writer of the screenplay.
A massive success when it premiered, Poltergeist made back the $10 million production budget a dozen times over at the box office, as well as winning rave reviews and landing three Academy Award nominations. Inevitably, a franchise was born, though it was one that suffered greatly from the law of diminishing returns with the 1986 and 1988 sequels.

You’ll never look at Chinese food the same way again after you see Won Ton Baby!, writer/director James Morgart’s feature-film debut. Morgart sent along an exclusive teaser trailer and a first photo of the tiny terror from the movie, and you can check ’em both out below.
The movie stars Fango Radio’s Debbie Rochon as Madame Won Ton, who ran a brothel in the ’70s but his since converted it into a Chinese restaurant. Her daughter Lily (Suzi Lorraine, who was also a producer and came up with the story with Morgart) believes her father was an Asian man—little knowing he was actually an Elvis impersonator her mom had a fling with in ’76—and adopts the appropriate accent. And she’s carrying something else, too: a growth in her abdomen that turns out to be a fetal twin Lily’s body absorbed while she was in her mother’s womb.

Even as it has become a cliché of the new horror wave for filmmakers to say that their projects aim for the spirit of ’70s chillers, movies that genuinely evoke that veneer are few and far between. There’s a certain vibe about the decade’s drive-in fare that’s hard to define and harder to capture, no matter how much gritty photography, explicit gore and cannibal-dinner-table setpieces one incorporates. One new production that gets it, and gets it right, is Plague Town (coming May 12 on DVD from Dark Sky Films), the feature writing/directing debut of David Gregory—perhaps not surprising, since he has previously made his name as a producer of documentaries and DVD extras celebrating films of the era, most notably Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth.
It’s also thus not surprising that Plague Town adopts the Texas Chainsaw template of a squabbling fivesome who travel...
