A nice and poignant film, Divorce Lemonade effectively depicts a few of, perhaps many of, the struggles of a young girl in such a short time. This film, like many others, offers up a young, precocious protagonist who has the ability to deal with what others might consider extraordinary circumstances. In spite of this, the film remains completely plausible and palatable, despite a few overly-dramatic moments. The film is very beautifully done in a relatively dull and oppressive hue, except for Sarah and her devices (blue sledding saucer, blue tablecloth/tarp, blue lemonade), and it is well-edited - very few wasted moments. I'm not too sure about the significance of the plastic-bag-in-the-wind motif... thought-provoking to say the least. Maybe someone else could fill me in.

This short film won Best Narrative Short at last year's Chicago International Film Festival. The shots were well planned and well shot. The context and meaning in each frame tells us so much. I was drawn in. A lot of shorts need to be even shorter than they are. Divorce Lemonade left me wanting more. I look forward to seeing more from this promising filmmaker. He has taken a subject he is obviously passionate about and given us a sad and darkly comedic portrayal of one family. It treads the fine line without crossing the line to ridiculous. It is based in reality and keeps the heavy drama, without being too heavy. It has emotional impact, yet is not shocking, it is touching.
Great job. I will look for other films to come. This director is at the beginning of a very long career. I look forward to working with you in the near future.
