The opening scene in this, where the young easterner accidentally shoots the girl's rose from its stem, is pleasing. Later the girl shoots her lover by mistake. This scene contains big dramatic interest, but was handled too quickly to get the most out of it. The plot of this is good for a tragic story, but it was not very skillfully presented. - The Moving Picture World, September 26, 1914
