I want to take a moment and extend my thoughts and condolences to Dustin Lance Black, who lost his brother, his protector, Marcus, to cancer this weekend.
Speaking in Florida Wednesday, Newt Gingrich promised that by the second term of his presidency America would have a permanent base on the moon. As much as I want our space program back to glory, I can't stomach one term of Newt, much less two.
There's a great article on the ambitious production of Giant that Matt Doyle is a part of in Dallas, and the hopes it has for Broadway.
I don't know what to say about these images of Miley Cyrus molesting the giant penis birthday cake from her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth's birthday party. I can't get past the fact that he has a giant chocolate icing red velvet penis cake for his birthday to think about her vamping.

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"Let Me In" (2010)
Directed by Matt Reeves
Released by Anchor Bay Entertainment
"Never Let Me Go" (2010)
Directed by Mark Romanek
Released by Fox Home Entertainment
Two of 2010's most underrated films that approach their respective genres from radically different perspectives than most, "Cloverfield" director Matt Reeves' "Let Me In" and Mark Romanek's "Never Let Me Go" will finally have the opportunity to stand out on home video. In "Let Me In," Reeves applies some of his own biographical touchstones for this remake of Tomas Alfredson's horror film about the unlikely friendship between a vampire (Chloe Moretz) and a lonely young boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee). Romanek's adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's much-beloved sci-fi novel about a group of children raised apart from the rest of society for purposes that are unknown to them. (Alison Willmore's reviews for "Let Me In" and...

FrightFest continues its strong relationship with Adam Green by hosting the world premiere of the sequel to his 2006 slasher sensation. Picking up right where the splatter-tastic original ended, Marybeth escapes the clutches of the deformed, swamp-dwelling iconic killer Victor Crowley. After learning the truth about her family's connection to the hatchet-wielding madman, Marybeth returns to the Louisiana swamps along with an army of hunters to recover the bodies of her family and exact the bloodiest revenge against the bayou butcher. Late yesterday the SXSW Fim Festival, which runs from March 12-20 in Austin, TX, announced the full lineup of films that will be screening at this year’s event. And baby, it’s quite a list. Mixing big name films with intimate indie gems, the sheer number of films and the vast array of talented filmmakers is sure to be a hit with attendees and critics alike.
This lineup includes premieres of studio films such as Universal’s MacGruber, Lionsgate’s teen superhero actioneer Kick-Ass and smaller films like Tim Blake Nelson’s Leaves of Grass, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Micmacs, Michel Gondry’s The Thorn in the Heart and Steven Soderbergh’s And Everything Is Going Fine. With so many films to watch, it will be very difficult to find time to seem them all during the events nine days. But hell, we’re going to try.

A pair of new projects are currently being prepped by writer/director Rich Robinson (who co-scripted and -helmed 2007’s Marcus) and producer/cinematographer Neil Moore for Backwoods Entertainment. One is a creature feature called The Colony, and the other is a youth-oriented horror/comedy in the Monster Squad vein titled The Slayers.
The Colony is set in the town of Eden Mills, where local sheriff Nick Whittaker must protect the residents from a pack of wolflike predators that dwell in an abandoned mineshaft. One of those beasts will make an appearance in The Slayers, which focuses on a group of misfit kids who team up to fight monsters threatening them and their neighbors. Robinson and Moore have shot teasers for both projects, which can be viewed at The Colony’s official website here and The Slayers’ site here.

Backwoods Entertainment has posted an updated promo teaser for its fright feature Dead By Dawn (no relation to the current New Blood DVD release of the same title), and sent along several images from it; you can see ’em below the cut. The clip was shot in North Carolina last August by writer/director Rich Robinson of 2006’s Marcus, to help attract funding for the project.

An update just fell into our inbox from the guys at Backwoods Entertainment about their follow up to the well-received indie Marcus (review), Dead by Dawn. Yeah, I know, not the most inspired of titles, is it?
A teaser has just been completed for Dead by Dawn to be used as a way to drum up funds to make the entire feature a reality. We’re not too clear on what it’ll be about but our last story on the project did have a snippet of plot; When murder befalls the small New England town of Juniper Falls, the citizens take justice into their own hands only to upset a malevolent force thirsty for blood and retribution.
The teaser can be seen at the official Dead by Dawn site, so get over to check it out and maybe finally find a good cause to donate your millions to. Rich Robinson...
