Paula Raymond hires Efrem Zimbalist to check out an Adrian Messenger like list of four names. She's the agent of radio talk show host, the acerbic Dan Tobin. The trouble is that when Zimbalist finds the first two, they get dead and he's on the hook for the murder rap.
While Zimbalist is on the lam the whole Bailey&Spencer team gets activated as Zimbalist has to stay hidden. The way they elude the cops is pretty funny at times. Even the receptionist Jacqueline Beer is pressed into service.
The LAPD and particularly Byron Keith works well with the private detective firm. But this episode also has a thick as a brick small town cop played by Charles Fredericks who's comically stupid.
Roger Smith is not in town, but gets back to LA just in time for the climax.
A little less complex than The List of Adrian Messenger, but along the same lines.
