Mistaken Identitity
ccthemovieman-113 August 2006
The king of Burgonia very young son, who escaped to America is now a young man and wants to go home to his people, where he can now rule. He's about Jimmy Olsen's age now and Olsen and Kent are the given to story to cover the coronation event. Howewer, the opposing forces who drove the youngster into exile and still around and don't want to see the real prince return. A last-minute plot to kill the prince in America is foiled by Superman.

The prince, in gratitude, gives his ring to Olsen to give to Superman. Meanwhile, Olsen and Kent travel to the foreign country but at the gate, spies waiting to capture the prince, see the ring on Olsen's finger and think he's the royalty. Olsen tries to explain to everyone that's he not the prince but no one is listening. Soon, after more attempts on Olsen's life foiled by Kent, they decide to let Jimmy pretend a little while longer until the real prince makes it safely back.

A "fair" episode in all and a bit unusual in that Lois Lane was absent and Perry White had a very small role in the beginning. It could have used a little more humor to spice it up a bit. The episode was just a bit flat for what could have been a very wild story.

Jimmy's Not So Charmed Life
Hitchcoc8 February 2015
There is a coup going on in a little European country, Burgonia, and the Prince is going back to settle things down. The Prince spends time with Jimmy Olsen and they develop a friendship. While they are together, an attempt is made on his life, and Superman must circumvent it. The Prince is grateful and wants to give Superman a beautiful ring, the symbol of his country. But because Superman takes off immediately, he gives the ring to Jimmy to give to Superman at their next meeting. Of course, because he is wearing the ring, some revolutionaries think he is the prince when he arrives in Burgonia. No matter what he says, no one believes him. He even meets a woman who has been part of an arranged marriage. She is very friendly to Jimmy, if you get my gist. Also, it seems that just about everyone in the picture are set upon killing the Prince/Jimmy. Of course, Clark is there, so Superman is there, and numerous assassination attempts are foiled without Jimmy even realizing it. Eventually the efforts to be subtle in their efforts forces the bad guys to simply stick Jimmy in front of a firing squad. A fun episode, if only to watch Jimmy trying not to be the Prince and failing to get his point across.

a funny episode that works

Warning: Spoilers
Though I am more a fan of the darker film noir type episodes of seasons one and two, this offering from season three is enjoyable. The grainy colour film is quite muddy and garish, and the plot is outlandish, but Jack Larson and George Reeves give understated comic performances aided by an outstanding supporting guest cast.

I won't ruin it for any new viewers by quoting, but there are some hilarious lines in here, particularly from Jimmy Olsen. The episode is indeed overdone at times yet there is some whimsical, slapstick humour when Clark Kent foils several assassination attempts against "Prince" Jimmy in a row.

I also think it's the first episode where Jimmy gets to kiss a girl.

Not once is this a believable story in any way, yet it is fun and still contains moments of tension and worry that our Jimmy might be harmed.

My one problem with it is the poor editing, inserting a little bit at the beginning that belongs in the middle. They seem to be experimenting with techniques in this season and it doesn't quite work as the glimpse of Jimmy in a crown and monocle is shown before we find out why he will be dressed that way later.
