The words on George's certificate, "Every man is my superior in that I may learn from him", is from an essay by Scottish writer Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881); although it is sometimes also attributed to the American author Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), who added "and every man is my inferior in that he may learn from me".
Richard Masur plays a character named George, who Archie repeatedly calls "Georgie". Richard Masur later goes on to play Stanley in the 1990 made-for-tv movie "Stephen King's 'It'". Stanley is friends with Billy who has a younger brother named Georgie.
