A few days before this episode airs (on March 25), two guest stars actors Charles Wagenheim and Victor Kilian from this same episode were both beaten to death by burglars in their apartments. Wagenheim was killed on March 6, 1979 and Killian on March 11, 1979.
The clerk at the motel is portrayed by the same actor (Victor Kilian) that was a resident at the elderly home that Edith was fired from earlier in the season.
At around 10 minutes when Archie asks about Edith's fern she says that it has been in the corner for 9 years, Archie cannot seem to believe that it has been there for 9 years and tells Edith to "Just let it die". At this point in time it had been 11 years since the first pilot was made and 8 years since the first aired episode, as it is unrelated to the plot of the episode it can be inferred that the conversation's inclusion in the penultimate episode is Norman Lear's way of having Archie give a meta-commentary on the show itself. The is perhaps the only time that a character in the show has come close to breaking the fourth-wall.
