Enter the Lorenzos

Archie is happy his new neighbors are white, but he soon finds other reasons to dislike them. This was Vincent Gardenia's third character in the series. He was previously Jim Bowman (season 1) and Curtis Rempley (season 2). He and Betty Garrett are fine as the Lorenzos. However, the tone of the episode is notably brash. The Lorenzo characters seem to have been added to show, simply to represent two more white people who oppose everything Archie says. Curiously, Gardenia dropped out of the show after a few appearances (the reason never explained), but Betty stayed until the 6th season. Good (but not great) episode, improved by some nice shots of Sally Struthers' beautiful legs.

Meet The Lorenzos

Archie finds out a minority family may be moving in next door and he gets up a petition to keep them out.

One of the funniest episodes ever. It starts with Mike driving Archie crazy about Watergate. He says "They shouda hired japs instead of all them krauts! The japs are better then the krauts at electronics...and if they get caught they do the right thing, they kill themselves!" Then Henry Jefferson finds out about the petition and tries to stop Archie until he finds out the new neighbors are Puerto Rican! It's funny seeing Archie and Henry agreeing on something. Finally, the new neighbors end up being white-liberated woman Irene Lorenzo(Betty Garrett), who has her own tool kit and can fix anything, and her jovial Italian husband Frank (Vincent Gardenia) who is more interested in cooking. A great start to another brilliant season of the show.

Unspectacular Lorenzo's introduction

Not a great episode. Best scene is Archie giving his list who are after him being #1. Does set up the Lorenzos who'll have some great episodes coming up. Archie goes after Carroll O'Connor's own Irish.
