Wally is played by Trevor Bardette in this season 4 installment. In "Man in a Hurry (1963)," Wally was keenly played by Norman Leavitt. Interestingly, both men died about ten days after their birthdays.
The Taylor family and Gomer Pyle (Jim Nabors) watched the fictional television show "Shep and Ralph." Ralph is a man and Shep, his dog. In this episode, young Dave, Ralph's cousin, gets trapped in a mine shaft on Potter's Peak. The plot points refer to Lassie (1954).
