The premise of this episode is based around Aunt Bee buying the new garbage disposal she'd been wanting, however the she already has a disposal. Aunt Bee specifically told Andy earlier in the season that the television set and the disposal are the only two things she didn't return in order to pay the taxes on her winnings.
Playing insurance salesman "Ed Jenkins" was Jack Dodson's first appearance on The Andy Griffith Show. He played "Howard Sprague" in all of his subsequent thirty-seven appearances.
This marks the first appearance of Jack Dodson on the Andy Griffith Show. He plays the insurance salesman, Ed Jenkins. Dodson first appeared as the newly-introduced regular character, Howard Sprague, seven weeks later in The County Clerk (1966).
This is the first time mention is made of the Taylor house having a basement. It's never seen in the series.
