Buddy Foster (playing Mike Jones) and Diane Quinn (playing Heather Campbell) were born in the same year but are playing characters who are significantly different in age. Sam reminds Opie that he is six years older than Mike, but in fact Buddy Foster was only three years younger than Ron.
Russell Schulman makes his acting debut in this episode, playing school bully Edgar Watson. Two years later, and in what would become his second to last acting credit, Schulman played the now infamous Buddy Hinton on an episode of "The Brady Bunch" ('A Fistful Of Reasons' - S2E8), the school bully who torments Cindy for her lisp and using the phrase "Baby talk, baby talk, it's a wonder you can walk!" Also, he gives Peter a black eye.
This episode borrows themes from two previous episodes in the first three seasons. Mike's issue with Edgar comes from "Opie and the Bully," and his dealings with Opie and Heather come from "Andy and Opie, Bachelors."
When Opie and Heather are bringing her luggage from the front yard into her home, parts of the Culver City/Desilu studio lot can be seen off on the horizon where previously a dilapidated old industrial building had blocked the view for many years.
In this episode, Goober reveals that corn on the cob is his favorite vegetable.
