The four Darling brothers were actually the real-life bluegrass band, The Dillards, led by real-life brothers, Rodney Dillard and Doug Dillard. All four members of the band kept their actual first names as characters on the show (along the fictional last name of Darling). The band recorded a number of albums of their music, including many of the numbers performed on the show. In their live concerts, actress Maggie Peterson ('Charlene Darling') often appeared on stage to sing with the band.
The only color episode to feature The Darlings.
In the opening shot, when the Darlings make the right turn onto Mayberry's Main St., the train shed from the film Gone with the Wind (1939) can be seen in the background.
The plot of this episode is very similar to Divorce, Mountain Style where the Darling Family is tricked by Andy. In Divorce, Mountain Style it was the curse of the white horse. Here, it was seeing an owl in the daytime as a counter-omen.
