[Abner wants to search for the outlaws who robbed him]
Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig : Just what experience have you had tracking?
Abner Harkey : Well, ah, me and Napoleon, we - that's my hound dog - me and Napoleon, you know, we used to go slashin' through the swamp. We used to track most everything - bear and possums - that sort of thing.
Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig : Mm-hmm. The nice thing about bear and possum - they can't shoot back.
Annie Oakley : But outlaws can - and do.
-
Abner Harkey : They don't make these saddles none too soft, do they?
Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig : Stick with it, Abner. There's nothing you can't do if you set your mind to it.
Abner Harkey : Well, it ain't exactly my mind I'm settin' on.
-
Abner Harkey : Those no count cotton pickers got my gold watch. I gotta get it back. My Daddy give it to me, he did.
-
Abner Harkey : Well, I reckon I better pitch in and help catch 'em no count outlaws.
Tagg Oakley : Were you a lawman back in Mississippi?
Abner Harkey : Well, no, no. Not exactly. But I reckon whatever needs doing, I can do it once I set my mind to it.
Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig : Are all you folks from Mississippi so modest?
Abner Harkey : No, sir, we're not. Why do you ask?
-
Abner Harkey : Gosh, that was a close one.
Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig : Any closer you wouldn't be talking now.
-
Abner Harkey : I ain't gonna have no trouble with that roping and riding type stuff. It'll just come natural.
Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig : Sure it will.
