another episode that just nails the settings, atmosphere, style. honestly, this episode just looks like a 90s paperback teen horror book cover.

we have another kristen episode! in her last one i mentioned how i figured her stories might have a more materialistic kinda feel and sure enough we get a story about a prom queen. i love it.

pretty much the episode is about 3 teens who are hoping to see the ghost of a dead prom queen. they go on a little research quest and there are some spoooooky surprises along the way.

for settings you get a cemetery, a neat little outdoor shake spot, a gorgeous library, a park filled with people and a little orchestral trio (curious about how they went about filming that...were they like, "we need an orchestral trio for this scene in the background" or did they just film at that park, the trio was there, and they figured it would look good and got permission to film them).

also, top notch fake out scene.

the ending was a little explainy. just because it's aimed towards kids doesn't mean you need to explain everything to them. other than that i thought it was a really fun episode, with a few minor drawbacks. still, i love kristen's stories so far.

Still of the Night

This is my third favorite episode of the show, it really is something really different because this is the kind of episode that not totally scary but actually really positive and strangely romantic. This was based on an urban legend and I feel this episode really did a good job of retelling it.

I really like the sense of mystery and a bit of spookiness, it's suspenseful in a different way because you sort of have an idea what to expect but your not entirely sure about the result. Also the story is actually really simple when you think about it, it just doesn't seem that way at first; but there are some suttle hints in places it's just easy to overlook them.

The two lead guys are solid, I like the back and forth between them; in a way this episode could almost be a Hardy Boys adventure as the dynamic between the two and there personas sort of remind me of Frank and Joe, let alone the fact both are investigating, Katie Griffin is just great as Dede, I remember as a kid I actually had a crush on this actress, she is just fraking hot. And of course on further note this actress was the voice of Sailor Mars for the anime TV show "Sailor Moon" which is awesome since I'm a fan of that show and Mars is my favorite character. Anyway she's sort of the mysterious beauty archetype where she some ordinary girl that is tagging along and helping the investigation but whether you suspect it or not there really is something more to her.

Just like the old song "Still of the Night" this tale to me is timeless.

My 2nd 10/10 of season 1

Absolutely loved this episode and have watched it I lost count lol. It's a great story from start to finish. You kinda know where it's going. I should say 1st viewing maybe not as obvious. Upon multiple Watch you know what's gonna happen obviously but you look at the little details and can see what's gonna happen. It's not spooky at all. It's a really neat ghost story for a kids series in the early 90s. Can't say more about it. If you haven't seen this one. I'd say get right on it. My opinion is this one is almost perfect. So for me it's a 10/10. Loving to rewatch and review them!
