"Now he's a ghost-creep!"

Warning: Spoilers
Two annoying siblings have to save their babysitter after she's transformed into a decorative wall plaque by an evil soul-collecting ghost lord!! As soon as the tale begins and it shows the kid with the red sweater and stupid haircut I found him to be so instantaneously annoying, his little face is so bratty! Neither of the kids are particularly likeable or interesting though, as brother and sister teams on this show go they're very weak. You can tell it's the 90s by how the youthful Asian babysitter spontaneously spouts out a little fortune cookie wisdom in the first scene! Robert Higden was a real hoot and certainly stole the show as Master Raymond, a wildly eccentric and delightfully weird sinister spirit who rules over the other ghosts who only appear every leap year full moon, can make his creepy mug appear just about anywhere, and who dresses with a snappy gothic flair! In his appearance at least the actor is strikingly similar to and feels like he's channeling Tim Curry, in Rocky Horror to be exact! His peculiar fatal weakness to gusts of wind was so lame! By that logic all the kids had to do the whole time was breathe heavily on him! I like how it's another ghost that saves the day in the end because the girl looks like her own lost daughter, that was a neat twist. I love the tone of surrealness and eerie atmosphere that this episode soon gets going as they find themselves stranded in the windblown middle of nowhere and enter the odd saloon full of easily-amused cocktail drinking 20s era ghost dandies! That's what I enjoy the most about this one, it excels in mood. Also the setting of the kind of grand old haunted house that would never exist in reality is fantastic. It's really a beautiful place, I love the visuals of the green hallways, very cool and spooky stuff. The episode's a bit thin for me somewhere overall though, it's definitely good, just not one I could say I love. It's so easy to love the majority of those silly old scary tales though and get dragged along for the ride and charmed by them, they're so nostalgic and more importantly they're still a heck of a lot of fun, I think I like them all, even the horrible ones! Fun villain, great settings, and it does actually command a pretty unique feel among the many episodes, a solid 7 out of 10 magic ice cream holes for me!! X
